The No New Tax Party/GOP cabal  can't carry on a sane and coherent conversation so they have to resort to personal attacks.

Wow -- you really are ignorant.   Blaming local political leaders for the financial problems and bankruptcy of a multi-state corporation.   You and the rest of the NNTP/GOP cabal are really out of touch with reality.

No, it's not me that's ignorant.  It's you that is either slow or stupid enough to NOT realize that they could have closed ANY of their locations due to the fact that the money was tight, and where is the one place that they TOTALLY pull out of?  Well, it's going to be the most costly / least profitable for them.  And guess where that is.  Well, you can really see it by driving around.  Let's see, you have an empty store in Rotterdam Square, a gas station on Curry Rd, a store about to close on Altamont Ave, a new Denny's at the location on Nott Terrace, and I believe the store in St. James Square / Shop Rite Square is closed too.  There's only one thing that these locations all have in common, the same Federal, State, and County Governments digging into their pockets.

Don't look in a mirror, now...  who's starting the "personal attacks?"

Friendly's had a lot of problems --- financial and otherwise.   Its demise can NOT be blamed on government -- but by the fact that they just didn't appeal to consumers.   If Friendly's had appealed to consumers, it would have done a lot of business and remained open.

Sometimes the glaring light of harsh reality is needed --- some businesses fail because they just weren't good enough to remain in business.    Life is short - get over it -- and move on.

I'm afraid that we may see more businesses fail if this economy doesn't get better. It is sad to think of all of these folks that will be out of work. And with the rising costs of just about everything, it will be even harder on these folks. Sad!

This will hurt sales tax in more than just the actual stores closing.  Thinking Altamont Ave, you probably have/had most of the people who either work / dine at Friendly's would have also been going to do other types of shopping.  It is now one less reason for them to come in.

It won't change my family's shopping and eating out habits --- we will still go to Top's, McClane's and Bellevue Cafe.

Right, because they just happened to decide to close EVERY SINGLE RESTAURANT that they were running IN SCHENECTADY COUNTY.  No, it's not the fault of the local leaders that they have made it impossible for businesses to contend in this county.  It's not because it's more financially feasible that they have left some of their locations open in other counties.

Well, I'm glad that I was able to get the the only full, sit-down Friendly's left in the county within the past couple weeks.

They did not close nationwide. They did close under performing restaurants like Altamont Avenue. First RSM -now here. The business climate in this County stinks. It will get worse with the $12 million addition a year of County taxes. Tax rates the highest in the country with liars about job creation. Friendly's was great and to bring up Flavorland is ridiculous. Typical distraction from the real systemic problems with the overtaxed local economy. Instead of solving anything they bash the messengers.

Because it takes a little more to get through to you, what I am saying is that there are many people that because of the fact they came to Friendly's, they would go to the other places to do their shopping, since they were already out and near the other establishments, i.e. it was close to Hannaford, Wal-Mart, an all the other stores in the Hannaford Plaza.  This will not be the case anymore.

Tell me, if you're going to dinner a Tops, what shopping is nearby for you to do once you're done eating?  And Bellevue Cafe?  And what shopping is there on upper Broadway? (Shows how much you had been going to THIS one, considering you don't even know the actual name of it is McLane's, not McClane's.)

We have been going to Top's, Bellevue Cafe and McLane's  for years --  and it is conveniently located for breakfast, lunch or dinner when coming or going to church, shopping or other other errands.

Why -- we have even gone shopping to Hannaford's or any number of the stores in Hannaford Plaza and then gone to one of those 3 places to eat (or vice versa) ..   I particularly like the card shop in Hannaford plaza.

According to news interviews some, if not all, employees showed up to work to locked doors.   No advanced warning of the imminent closing.   Nice(?) gesture by the company to it's valued(?) employees.   When employees are to be out they must call in to report same.   This requirement of consideration does not apply to the corp.   Not sorry to see them go if this is how they regard their workforce.   But fear not, they will restructure, have their debts forgiven, wipe the slate clean, and be ready for corp. welfare/municipality handouts with, and under the guise of that oldie but a goodie, job creation-the mantra that appeals most to the pols. in their endless quest for fodder to keep being re-elected.   There is always a "Plex" somewhere to aid/abet.   Who knows maybe they will resurface at the new Alco Condo retail center.

The other issue with the Friendly's on Altamont Ave -- as the Avenue changed .. the restaurant did NOT change ...   entering and exiting the site is more difficult,  parking is very limited ....   and once inside the layout and seating were not only dated but it was difficult to seat a party of more than 4 persons.

When we go out to eat, it is usually a family event or a church committee meeting or meeting related to town projects -- there is really less than 5 persons ---- so we seek out places that will accommodate 5 or more persons at the same table.

Then there is the issue of Friendly's very limited menu ...
