This past weekend, I traveled to Chicago to speak at the Conservatives4Palin meetup, where Mama Grizzlies, Palinistas and "ordinary barbarians," as she's now taken to calling her followers, gathered to hear speeches, talk about conservative issues, celebrate a hypothetical Palin 2012 campaign and generally worship at the altar of Sarah Palin.

At one point during the program, Palin made a surprise phone call to the group, patched through one of the organizer's cell phones and played over a loudspeaker. The room burst into spontaneous applause and frenzied yelping as she launched into a warm and cheery 20-minute "thanks for all your hard work" chat.

I returned to New York from the Chicago gathering to find Palin again, not in my ear but on my television screen, bouncing gleefully around Alaska on her new TLC documentary series, "Sarah Palin's Alaska." She and Todd (her "neat husband," as Phyllis Schlafly put it recently) went fishing, rock climbing and bear spotting in between appearing on Fox News and ducking from their nosy new neighbor, who moved in just to write about Alaska's former first family.

It seems everyone wants a piece of Palin these days. Some are fans, some are hostile foes. But regardless, we just can't stop talking about her. Will there ever be a time when we decide that we've figured her out and there's nothing else to say?

And then it hit me. The reason Palin has become such a lightening rod, a kingmaker and a punching bag, a celebrity and a power player, is simple. It's because she's so gosh darn happy.

For her fans, like the ones I had the pleasure of meeting in Chicago, she's refreshingly upbeat and resilient, the bubbly friend from childhood who was always great at cheering you up and cheerleading you on.

But for her detractors, nothing raises the ire of cynical liberals more than a happy-go-lucky, totally unburdened, freethinking and self-assured conservative woman who has everything she wants and then some. And without anyone's help.

Sure, she'll tell you that Todd, her parents and her children are an invaluable support system. But after eight years of hearing that George W. Bush was a nepotism experiment gone wrong, Sarah Palin has made it here (wherever this is) on her own. John McCain's imprimatur certainly launched her into the national spotlight, but she became the youngest and first female governor of Alaska all on her own.
How dare she?

Liberalism, after all, needs to imagine an unhappy populace. Passing sweeping entitlement programs and convincing voters that big government is the answer only works if people are frustrated with their stations in life.

I have been saying for over 2 years .. anyone who tries to dismiss or play down the potential of Sarah Palin
is making a huge mistake.   It will be interesting to see if she decides to seek the GOP nomination for
President in 2012.

Palin is unqualified to be President of the USA... (But so was GWB    )

What do Republicans think of Palin?

~GW Bush said of Palin: "she isn't qualified to be President."

~Karl Rove questioned whether Palin had the “gravitas” to be president or even the fortitude to withstand the rigors of a long, bruising campaign.

Bush aid, Michael Gerson, says that in some ways Palin has become “a threat to the Republican future.”

~On Palin's Fox News comment about past presidents:
“Wasn't Ronald Reagan an actor? Wasn't he in 'Bedtime for Bonzo,' Bozo, something? Ronald Reagan was an actor.”
Reagan speech writer Peggy Noonan writes of Palin:
~ “Excuse me, but this was ignorant even for Mrs. Palin.
~ “The point is not ‘He was a great man and you are a nincompoop,’ though that is true,” Noonan wrote, contrasting Palin with Reagan. “The point is that Reagan's career is a guide, not only for the tea party but for all in politics.

~According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, just 27 percent of those surveyed see her as qualified for the presidency while 67 percent say she’s not qualified.

IS it just me???

I find Sarah Palin to be a very attractive woman.
~
IMO Palin has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard!
~
I agree with Peggy Noonan who called Palin a "nincompoop".
~
I think Palin was in way over her head in her job as Mayor, no less as Governor.
~
Palin is one of those women who's gotten very far by learning how to use the system.  She is attractive which opens doors.  She is flirtatious, which opens more doors, she smiles, she winks she is is full of cutesy, which has helped women advance in society since the beginning of time.

If Palin were put to the double blind test... where voters couldn't hear the candidates or see the candidates but only read there words... Palin couldn't get elected dog catcher.

Obama is even less qualified to be president and the mistakes he's made since he's been in office are worse than the ones Bush made so don't brag too loud about other candidates not being qualified. Obama has never governed anything and it shows.

My post about Palin being unqualified to be US President contained Republican quotes.  Your argument isn't with me but with them.

I'd prefer that neither Palin nor Obama run for office of president in 2012.

The Constitutional requirements to be elected President is that one must be at least 35 years old and a
natural born citizen of the United States of America.      Sarah Palin meets those requirements thus she
IS qualified to be president.

Any other criteria used to determine who is best suited to be president is purely up to the
subjective opinion of each and every voter.

If Abraham Lincoln were to run for President today --   with just 2 years experience in the House of
Representatives  (and a dubious record there at that) and a track record of failed business ventures -- and
not to mention the fact that he doesn't have the "made for tv looks" and reportedly had a high pitched,
squeaky speaking voice  ....  if Abraham Lincoln were to run today -- many folks would say
"he isn't qualified to be president".    Yet we all know that he proved to be a great president once elected.

Warren G. Harding was touted as the most qualified man ever to run for President in 1920.   Handsome
and with a great speaking voice .. a successful businessman and an experienced US Senator --- yet how
did he turn out  once elected ????

Bottom line --- if Sarah Palin chooses to run for President .. i will give her the same respect as any other
candidate running -- and will weigh a lot of different criteria before I decide whether to support her or
some one else.

She is constitutionally qualified to be president - only a moron would deny that.

as for her being a media hound ... name one politician who is not ?

as for Saturday Night Live skits ... only teenagers who can't get a date on Saturday night and older losers
watch the show anyway

finally - calling her a moron is really a very sexist comment to make ---  if she were a man, I doubt that
people would be making the nasty comments about her.    IF she is such a moron and such a bad politician .....  why pray tell are so many people making such a big deal about her.   If she is such a moron and such a bad politician, they would just ignore her and she would be spending her time speaking to a herds of
moose in Alaska.    I remember all the negative things said about Reagan in the 1970's  -- and he ended
up winning the presidency and being a rather effective president.    The fact is that the "opposition" always
tears down the candidates from the other side that they fear most.

The FACT is she has been quite effective as a campaigner  --this past Autumn as she traveled around the  country  .. every event that she appeared at was SOLD OUT -- she raised millions of dollars for candidates running  and many of them won  ....     conversely -- President Obama had to cancel events because of lack of interest .. and many of the candidates he campaigned for .. went down to defeat.

Nobody is denying she is a rock star.  But I wouldn't Lady GAGa to be President either and she is probably more qualified.  You know some people are great marekters but could not do the job.  She has already been deemed as unqualified.  Cake Boss sold out too.  AS for the term moron, are you kidding again DVR.  Bush was an even bigger moron than Palin.  At least she was better to look at.  I do not believe you are a Dem.  You have no Dem qualities.  Take off the mask of Republicans.  You're in the closet come out as a Rep.

As for SNL--LOL  Half the medical community tunes in.
