Let's honestly ponder Santabarbara's motives for taping the private conversation.
As I see it there were three possible reasons that he would have taped this conversation. They are:
1) Blackmail 2) Political calculation 3) Legal action against Chazen Engineering if he was released from his employment.
We will dismiss reason #1 because that seems too sinister.
Reason #2 Political Calculation - The most likely reason in my opinion, particularly because he chose to release the recording taped 6+ months ago only two weeks before the election. He is certainly not still concerned about losing his job because he has remained employed long after the alleged discussion took place between Amedore and Santabarbara's employer. Further, Angelo stated during his conversation w/ Al Roney yesterday that Chazen hasn't conducted business w/ Amedore Homes for some time (since before Angelo worked there). And, to add another consideration, wasn't Santabarbara the Chair of the Rotterdam IDA while Chazen Engineering was contracted to be the Town of Rotterdam Engineering Consulting firm? The likelihood of him being released from his job are/were IMHO low.
Reason #3 Legal Action against Chazen Engineering - If Angelo was honestly concerned about losing his job, he may have taped this conversation with Amedore to use in court in a case against his employer for wrongful dismissal.

Does this compare to Santabarbara's dishonesty and betrayal of friends and voters who supported him when he purported to be a conservative? HA! Fool me once, shame on you.
