Sounds great! How about a sprikler park for the summer months? I know my kids would love that!
A sprinkler park sounds like a good idea. |

For the record - we would not displace the "Challenger League Fields" currently at what is now Woestina Park ... some thought has been given to possibly configuring one of the fields for use for football and soccer. |

Does this proposed park have land on the edge of the canal? If so, would it be a possibility to put in some boat docks to encourage people to come in? Some clear land forpeople to get off their boat and have lay out for a picnic? Or some picnic tables and pavilions to help protect in case of inclement weather? I would suggest adding some of the things that they have down at Central Park, i.e. a playground area, pavilions, but I would avoid putting in a pool, unless you think that's something that would get high usage. I just think it would be too much of a cost for the taxpayers over time, unless there's going to be something to offset the cost. |

The Canal Corporation land runs along the Mohawk River/State Canalway -- so YES we would like to have some dockage for travelers along the canalway to stop and spend their $$$ in Rotterdam. Picnic tables and Pavilions would be a great idea. I think we are saving the pool idea -- for possible inclusion in an indoor Community Center to be located somewhere else in town. |

I would like to see a facility in Bicentenniel Park -- similar to the ampitheater at Gifford Pinchot's Greytowers in Milford, PA. This ampitheater was built by the US Forest Service (Pinchot was the founder of the Forestry movement in the US and the first head of the US Forest Service under Teddy Roosevelt) --- everything is natural .. grassy lawn seating, evergreens as the back drop for the stage area amd even the stone "curbing" used to delineate the stage area. With such a facility in our proposed town park -- we would have a space for cultural arts and entertainment activities .. community building events. I remember the 150th anniversary of Rotterdam when many town residents ( of all parties and all walks of life) put on a stage show at the Schalmont auditorium .. it was called "Those were the Days". Jack Sheehan, owner of the Costumer who once taught Drama at Schalmont, was one of the principal organizers. Public figures such as Supervisor Kirvin, members of the town board, and the Superintendent of Schools for Schalmont all appeared on stage in various musical numbers or skits ---- it celebrated Rotterdam's rich history as a town .. and served to build up our community spirit. We need to do something like that again for us .. for each other .. for our town. |

wasn't there an issue not too long ago about the Canal Corp and the $$ it has siphoned from the 'state' over the years? it was on another thread that we discussed them......? anyone remember that conversation? |

It doesn't really have any bearing on our plans to build Bicentenniel Park. |

since I don't work for the Canal Corporation nor have ever received anything of value (money or otherwise) from the Canal Corporation or any of its employees, vendors, etc. --- I suggest you be careful what you are accusing me of. |

cant make it too fancy - rotterdam is a proud BLUE collar town we cant have anyone better than us move in - it is not in our heritage as for theatre, there is a group out of rotterdam that searches for a location to put on productions regular basis most of the productions are to edgy(classic broadway) for public schools to allow their work, sothey do them at church - go figure http://oopsny.tripod.com/id1.html |

The Parks Commission's goal is to have the park operational by 2020 - our town's 200th birthday - we will be developing a masterplan for the park ... that can be implemented incrementally .. as funding becomes available. |
