it's equally as rude to pander to the poor poor seniors,,,,,as the Dems do......the purchase of voters either way is wrong........

Taking an interest in senior issues is not pandering.     Both sides make promises to the seniors.  I have
been to the candidate events at the senior center  --- and seen that from both sides.

At least with Mr. Del Gallo and the current Democratic majority -- and with the great work of Diane Marco - they are trying to make improvements at the senior center.   The new kitchen is one example.  I see
that because of a bequest there will be new windows installed.

my point being that in this town the conversation always turns to the seniors...because if it didn't any person up for election would be
considered a schmuck.....THE FUTURE IS COMING......for EVERYONE........

yeah,,,,new bequested windows....that doesn't help the fact of no sewers-no new business-no new tax base hence, Mont Pleasant.....

so help me to understand the rationale for 'fluffing' our pillows over and over and over again, meanwhile the stuffing is all used up
and there ain't nuthin' new coming down the pike except for some old retreaded businesses????

SHOW ME THE $$ TRAIL....SHOW ME THE VALUE IN MY TAX DOLLAR.....

The Senior Center houses programs for more than just seniors.  It is the defacto Town Community Center.
Just as with a home, it is always wiser to keep the building in a reasonable state of maintenance than to
allow it to detiorate.  You may not think that new windows and a new kitchen are a big deal ... but it
is certainly a good investment .. adding much value to a taxpayer owned and supported facility.

Oh do tell us - what event(s) for residents, not senior citizens, was held from there in the past, oh - year? How many bus trips for residents, not seniors, left from there?  Why does the sign say "Senior Center"?  Where are programs advertised for this "defacto town community center" advertised?

There were a number of summer programs for young people --- a number of social/community events
including 2 sponsored by Saint Adalbert's parish -- (and advertised among other places on the sign out
front of the building, in the Times Union, Gazette, Evangelist and Spotlight newspapers, and in some
other media)
and EVERY Saturday since last May there was a Farmer's Market in the parking lot.
Also, if you listen to the annoucements at the end of the town board meeting or look at the flyers
posted on several bulletin boards in town hall and at the center ...  you will keep informed of the many
activities that do go on there.

The fact is that the building that houses the Senior Center ... is used for more than just activities for
senior citizens.    It has become the defacto  Town Community Center.  Some long over due projects
have been done to fix the building and another one -- the new windows -- is in the works.  They help keep
the building in good repair, functioning, and allow it maintain its value should we eventually try to sell it ..
if we build a new  multi-generational community activity and recreation center.    OR  .. we build the new
center AROUND the existing senior center.   Whatever option -- we are maintaining a town-owned property.

There is no doubt that our town has to deal with a lot of issues to prepare for the future.  And working
together, we can start addressing each of these issues one by one -- but always taking into account the
big picture.

At least be more specific -- we can't just discuss the "generic future".

Rotterdam's unnecessary senior center building is a sh!thole. Rotterdam just loves to TRY to make sh!t shine! But under the shine.....it is still sh!t!!

And if anyone thinks that the up and coming rotterdam seniors will be going to that sh!thole, they have another thought coming. The building as well as the programs are antiquated! Todays boomers don't ride buses for God's sake! Rotterdam's senior center is clearly not for the up and coming baby boomers! There are many from rotterdam that are going to Glenville's senior center......OR they are taking the night adult classes offered by the local schools!!

The boomers are an entirely different breed of seniors!IMHO

Eventually,  I hope that we can replace the old senior center and the old  Boys & Girls Club with a brand
new  Town Community Activity and Recreation Center.   The goal is to be able to do that within 10 years.
