4TH SENATE DISTRICT
Farley apparent winner over Savage

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

State Sen. Hugh Farley, R-Niskayuna, appears to have won his fight to keep the Conservative Party line, according to unoffi cial results from boards of elections in the 44th Senate District.
Democrat candidate Susan Savage waged a fight for the third-party line in Tuesday’s primary. Voters had to write in her name on the ballot.
Savage is chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature, representing Niskayuna and Glenville.
In Schenectady County, the crucial battleground for the Conservative Party line, Farley received almost twice the number of machine votes over the write-in candidate. He received 81 votes in Saratoga County; there were no write-in votes there.
Farley said he was leading 7-1 in Fulton County. Results for Montgomery County were not available.
“I am very pleased, very pleased. I think the party has stepped up and voted on who should be the Conservative candidate,” Farley said.
Travis Proulx said Savage captured 33 percent of the total vote, or about 240 votes to Farley’s 550. “We are happy with the numbers. This was a write-in campaign. Farley lost a third of his base today to a write-in candidate. That is extraordinary,” he said.
The boards of elections in the four counties will list the names of the write-in candidates in coming days.
Savage has strong ties with the Conservative Party in Schenectady County, and a win would have been a major coup for her. There are approximately 4,399 Conservatives in the 44th Senate District. About 3,000 of them live in Schenectady County, with half that number residing in Rotterdam, making the local Conservative Party a significant player in political races, including the state Senate race.
Michael Long, chairman of the state Conservative Party, earlier said Farley “clearly is the choice of the Conservative Party.”
Farley has received the Conservative line each time he ran for office. He is seeking his 18th two-year term in the Senate.
Tom of Schenectady, a Conservative who did not want his full name revealed, said he voted for Farley, but only reluctantly. “Whenever there is a contested election, I come out. But I agree with the Tea Party. It’s time for new blood,” he said.
Tom said Farley takes compromise positions, but he said the senator’s credentials are more conservative than Savage’s.
“If that is the only two choices given, then the choice is to select Farley,” he said. “I couldn’t believe that she was running on the line.”
The election was not without problems. A Democrat was allowed to vote on the Conservative ballot in Rotterdam Election District 12, according to Board of Elections commissioners Brian Quail and Art Brassard. They called it an error by a poll worker, which will be dealt with after the election.
Robert Farley, son of the senator, said an alert poll watcher caught the error and reported it to the Schenectady County Board of Elections. The state Board of Elections was also contacted, he said.
“They tried to do more than that, but we stopped them,” Farley said.
Farley also said that polling machines were not operational at Rotterdam Town Hall for 10 to 15 minutes after polls opened at noon. He said he was unsure what effect their unavailability had on the fi nal tallies.
Quail said polling progressed smoothly for the most part. ...................>>>>........................>>>>...........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00903&AppName=1

"... Savage captured 33 percent of the total vote, or about 240 votes to Farley’s 550."

1/3 of votes in a State Senate election were cast by write-in.  Only when orchestrated
by a group with the funding to send out letters and instructions.  The question is, who
was behind this attempt to hijack the Conservative party endorsement and award it
to a liberal Democrat?

Also, I heard that some voters received anonymous postcards urging that they write
in Joe Suhrada for the 44th District State Senate seat.  Was this an attempt by the
same group to peel off the support of those with traditional conservative values to
split the vote and hand the win to Savage?

An embarrassing loss for SS Savage. She tried to hijack the CONS Party and fell flat on her face. Her campaign is imploding with the latest poll that shows Senator Farley way ahead. She is in for another big loss in November.

That is just stupid! What kind of kooky game plan did they have?

If these numbers are accurate...

Ms Savage got 1/3 of the vote -- from write-ins   .. which in my experience with
"OTB challenges" is quite impresive

Add to that the fact that many voters were grappling with the new voting machines for the
first time.

That's the same 250 cops and family members who line up with the democraps every election in the conservative party, although in a local race, they drag out 50 more usually, but a bunch of them defected when they realized that they don't need another gun-controlling, anti-death-penalty, soft-on-crime vote in the NYS Senate. Thereby bringing the total lower. As a matter of fact, it was probably the Italian 'off the boat vote' who do absolutely as they are told in this case to come out more for Farley. A lot of the cops just looked at the orders from the union boss and said 'No F'ing way are we voting for this lib, this time!'

But adding Angelo S family members helped keep the # more respectable as well. Of course, they will have to find another party to organize next year after the conservative party goes away.

well, as I said Ron. I don't take meds, and I actually know the voting patterns here. I stand by what I said. The C party is controlled by the cops unions from the county and are indebted to the democrap administration. They can get about 250-300 push button votes and they did just that; but should have had higher totals based on the influx of the Sanatabarbara family to their team. Many of the cops who could normally be counted on turned up their noses on this one because they know Farley is for law and order, not for the ACLU and the typical radical left anti-police special interests which manifests itself in the NYS democrap party. Rememeber the democrap delegates who spat on the police honor guard at the Hillary Clinton coronation at the past democrap convention out in Syracuse? Those were the NAACP types from the City. but as usual, you and Box want to deny they exist.

Go ahead with the smugness, we will see who cries the morning after the November election.

I guess DVR is not at his clerk's post. This is the first loss of many for SS Savage. They couldn't find enough idiots to write in her name. They said they would and then voted for Sen Farley.

It's really hilarious to hear DEMS try to spin this into a win. SS Savage wasted alot of time and effort on this and fell flat on her face. SS Savage is as CONS as Nancy Pelosi.

It even appears that with doing things their own way, and people voting in ways other than those allowed by the law, Susan Savage could only get a maximum of 1/3 of the vote.  Who knows, many people may have written in Mickey Mouse, or voted as him.  We'll have to wait until we get the results of what the write-ins are.
