So you think it is OK that Schalmont is closing 2 school buildings -- one not much more than 10 to 15 years old... while Mohonasen wants to spend several million dollars building more buildings ??????
.

The mohonasen taxpayers spoke....mohon's not building anything. The taxpayers know how to tighten their belts during the tough times. Just like they spoke regarding REMS. A lesson learned.

When the economy picks up, I'm sure things can move forward. Now is not the time. And consolidation should not be considered during temporary down turns. You tighten your belt, cut where you can and hold tight until it rebounds. Which it will. I certainly hope that the Recovery gin mill isn't getting any tax breaks. That will really pi$$ the mohonasen taxpayers off.

I support obama and cuomo on their push for charter schools.

Schalmont's cost is in the travel in the hills.....too far, not many = increased cost.....they could make a campus.....combining them will not make the
cost of busing the boonies in any less......those who live there chose to live there.....they know what they need to do.....and consolidating
doesn't get rid of mandates or guaranteed pensions/retirement/health insurance........

My hope is that enough residents show up at the next Schalmont School Board meeting to voice their opposition to closing both schools.

DV, you oppose tax dollars being used for charter schools.  Why do you favor tax dollars being given to gin mills, theaters, bakeries, hotels, hair-do salons, appliance stores, etc etc etc

What's the matter, cat got your tongue?????   Why won't you answer that.

You opposed tax money going to a "private" schooling system , but you favor tax money given to private for-profit businesses owned by millionaires.....WHY?

Why are you such a hypocrite?????????

Too chicken to answer that question, because opposing the tax handouts to the political crony millionaire for-profit businesses would mean saying something in opposition to your girl Susie and her cronies Gillen & Stratton?

The Albany Times Union has a great op ed piece that explains EXACTLY what I have been saying about the
need to consolidate municipalities, consolidate taxing districts and consolidate school districts.

Bottom Line:
The property tax cap will be passed this year.   This will lead to very serious discussions - and hopefully - action that will end up with local governments and school districts merging.

P.S.  Just a hint to a certain someone, I will NEVER respond to your questions.  You insult my family and then have the nerve to demand answers.   You must be nuts to think I would ever talk to you or answer you here or any place else.

The residents of all the school districts other than the city will not agree to be consolidated with the Schenectady School District. Also what parent in their right mind would want to send their kids to a school full of gang members, violence, bullying, and a graduation rate of 50%. It's not going to happen.

The residents may not have a choice --- I keep telling you that the State can consolidate school districts without a vote of the residents.   School districts and municipalities -- all local government entities -- are created by the State Legislature and all it would take is one piece of legislation to wipe out the existing school districts and municipalities and replace it with a fewer number of consolidated entities.

Also, you do the many good students in the City school district a great disservice by saying that the schools are"full of gang members".   There are some gang members but it is not the majority of the student body.

And I can tell you that gang problems, violence, bullying, etc --- happens in suburban schools, too.   The schools do a better job of hiding that harsh reality -- and the media won't publish negative stories about the suburban schools.

dont worry....even if the schools consolidate it doesn't mean the kids actually have to go to the buildings....we should still have the option of long
distance/co-op schools.....the only facilities needing to be built are for the extra things like sports/music/art etc.....in which case the local businesses
could get involved and have their advertisement all over while they support those endeavors with their donations.......

did you buy your IPAD yet?????

DV.  Do you favor the HUGE cost of busing kids all over the county?????

And tell us, you oppose any funding of charter schools by the taxpayers.  Can you explain why you favor taxpayer funding of gin mills, bakeries, hotels, theaters, hairdo salon schools, etc?

Why are you too much of a chicken to answer that?????  Act like an adult man with a college degree and answer the questions

DV if you think that the politicians will mandate consolidation of 6 school districts over the objection of the residents when doing so will be political suicide for them and knowing how much they love their power and money they will never do it.

It is actually laughable to think that some folks think that all schools in schenectady would consolidate!!!

Even ND would fight against that one. She stated that she moved to rotterdam to not only give her kid a better life, but so her kid can go to a 'better school'. One of which she is employed at.

I'm sure that the state has many other places to cut first before they drastically cut education. Here's a thought................lower the welfare benefits to the federal mandate level. Now that would be a start, huh?

Before the state demands consolidation........especially with cuomo in.......they will opt for charter schools.

The talk has been that they want to do it statewide -- that is pass legislation to reduce the number of school districts from over 600 to 1 per county -- as is done in many states.
