I see water equipment was at this building today .. backhoe and several trucks.

There's progress, but at what pace?

They didn't get final permission to build the bank until well into December 2010.   If they had gotten the approval in November, they had hoped to do the demolition before the end of the year.    So now, they are waiting for good weather to return to bring the old restaurant down so they can build the new bank.

So, some employees will be moved a few blocks away.  No new jobs will be created.

And who will move into the what will be the vacant building where Pioneer currently is?

Who is going to move into the AJ Wright space?

How many more years will the former dental office be vacant?

How many more years will the former billards place be vacant?

How long will the CVS space be vacant?

Etc Etc??????

Vacant places is really argument for lower assessment

I agree...
The old sunrise deli, the 4 corners fire remnants, the service station on the 4 corners, the curry road shopping plaza, the edgewood, the old hamburg street grand union....

Rotterdam looks a lot like Utica, and that's NOT a good thing.

Another eyesore being redeveloped into something useful in Rotterdam  -- Thank God for
Frank DelGallo and the Democratic Team ... more positive results in Rotterdam in 9 months
than in 8 years of  RepubliCAN'T rule.

OK, found this blog site after reading an article in the Gazette about a week ago, and have been reading the post.  Thanks to the town board for the bank going to this site, lol.  I know FIRST hand not I heard she said he said, bla bla bla, Pioneer would have made this move no matter who was in office, they were looking to move to a free standing building (with a drive-thru) for several years, as to why Edgewood and why now?  The same was done in Latham a few years back.  I am sure that several years back the owners would have not entertained an offer of the nature that they ended up taking which was some 30% off the asking price they started at.

Also saw a post from way back about who oversees the bidding of the developments, they are private developers so they pay what they pay, I know several of the developers involved in these questions on this blog and believe me they are getting the most they can from contractors for their money, they look for return on investment, over paying, does them no good.

From what I can see here there are about, oh 8 people or so that live their lives through here, really? Get out and get some fresh air, find people in the areas you are complaining about (in this case development) and get an understanding of how it works, if you really care to understand, God knows Democratic voice isn't the master of all subjects........

Thanks for the input. Really... really.  The fact is that this is a sounding board, just the same as going out in public and stating things.  Many more people read this sboard than actually post here, a point proven by your comments alone.  Second, people come here to get information that they may not otherwise get.  Also, some of us use this as a place to bounce our ideas into public prior to bringing them to the "people in the areas we are complaining about."  Some of those areas have decided not to listen at all.  Some have.  Sometimes, people can see that their initial ideas are not the best and change them depending on other recommendations listed here.  And we (at least most of us) don't "live our lives here."  We have other things we do, but we also check in here, as this is where the hard hitting news breaks, many times faster than you'll see it on any newscast or in any newspaper.  This can be seen by issues that are discussed here actually being brought up in the other news sources, whether they admit it or not. There have been times where issues come up on this board, only to be in the official newspaper (The Gazette) a day or 2, maybe 3 after.

Use this story as an example.  This story was “broken” by MobileTerminal back on September 5th.

The Times Union got wind of the story and reported it 9 days later (9/14, Post 19), and this was still more than a week (8 days to be exact) before this went to print in “the official newspaper of the town of Rotterdam,” The Daily Gazette (9/22, post 52).  So, by the time this story was broken by the Gazette, besides the Times Union story, there was already 50 comments on this.  Some may not have been right to point, but that is much conversation about something that wasn’t newsworthy for so long.

Little hick town Rotterdam operates on politics. Everything is considered political....that is just the way it is. Thanks for the input. But the present town board and their supporters would have rotterdamians believe that they deserve the credit for Pioneer's relocation.

And yes....there may be some rhetoric, just like there is in every aspect of life....but some of these people are awesome and very informative. imho

I tried telling the idiot the same thing above, as he is intent on politicizing every occurrence in the town based on "his" people being in power. People like him who never ran a business think businesses sit there needing the government to tell them what to do and when to do it and how much to pay. People of that nature believe that only through some government program or interference can a new business open, or a business make a decision based on what is good for them etc. The sad part is that people like that control the government here and all the way up to the White House, and all they are doing is STOPPING people from being prosperous and employed by their interfering machinations via regulation, interference in the marketplace, subsidies for the cronies, and excessive taxation. The bank wants to own(at a good price) commercial REAL ESTATE where their banks are located. They don't want to rent of they can help it. Certain banks like this are in a cash position and believe buying the property now at a bargain is better than renting in a slummy, run down strip mall. No government-control maggot is going to make them formulate their strategies in this regard. I get frustrated that people can be hoodwinked to think that these businesses expand or make decisions based on whether Sue SaVAGE is in office or not. She is not making their bottom lines tick. She may be handing certain ones perks, at the expense of all the other taxpayers who are struggling, but it is not because the liberal democraps who run all of our governments are making our economy so profitable for us all.

If the Republicans were in office -- they would be claiming that the new Pioneer Bank was their accomplishment.   The fact is the new bank will replace and empty eyesore -- and THAT is an accomplishment.    That the nattering nayboobs of negativity can't give some credit where credit is due  -- in this case to the current town leaders -- says more about their hate-filled view of everything that happens locally and their inability to use rational thought processes.

Oh --- and the new Pioneer Bank building will house more than a branch bank -- it will have some offices transferred there from the main hq -- so .. in fact ---  it will employee more folks --- so, once again, MC does not know what he-she is talking about.

Politics did not make this move by the bank, business planning did, end of story, sounds like this thread is solved.  As was probably part of the appliance store moving to a location with 1000% better visibilty and for those who think the old location should have been good for business....it is for sale so move your business there, especially if it is coming from Albany or another county.......
