Art collector wants help for barn flag

    A Niskayuna man is trying to create the largest painted American flag in Schenectady County and perhaps even in New York state, but he needs the help of the community.
    Bob Minahan owns the house and barn at 929 Pearse Road in Niskayuna, but he doesn’t live in it. He’s turned the residence into the Off the Wall Art Gallery where he hangs and showcases his eclectic collection.
    “I’ve been collecting art for years and about two years ago I bought this property to keep all of it,” Minahan said.
    Minahan decided to add to his collection and in turn hopes to bolster some patriotism with this flag project, which kicked off on a recent Sunday with red, white and blue paint and a table full of snacks and beverages.
