I commend this home owner for using his constitutional right to 'protect' his property! The home owner was the VICTIM not the PERPETRATOR! The kid got what he had coming to him. And if that were my kid.....he would have experienced worse once he got home!!!

I don't think even Hanson would be dumb enough to take this to court Take a look at the Polls...when the public runs 90% to 10% in favor of the homeowner, all the homeowner needs to do is ask for a jury trial.. which is his right as a defendant...good luck with that jury pool. The result will be Madeo having to pay for the homeowners legal costs on a counter-suit. The burden of proof as well as reason for acquittal in a civil trial isn't even in the same league as a criminal case. But I would like to see it tried...it would be fun to watch

I must not have made my self clear when I said she looks younger than she is, I was trying to say her mother looks younger than her own age. And again I will tell you she is the only secretary she has ever had since she began her practice. As for needing a wheel chair again you have no clue what you speak of. You really should quit making things up to start trouble.

Re July 23 article, “Teen tackled, charges lodged”: It seems strange that a man trying to protect his family in the middle of the night from multiple invaders/trespassers ringing the doorbell, beating on the house and causing general chaos, should be arrested for reacting in an instinctive manner and bringing the matter to a reasonable solution, without serious injury. I am speaking of Mr. Daniel Van Plew and his experience with four teenagers from an apparently unsupervised sleepover in Bethlehem. One of the questions I have is, if Rob Madeo [the detained boy’s father] had the power to have Van Plew arrested on behalf of his underaged, irresponsible son, why doesn’t Mr. Van Plew have the same power to have the father of the detained teenager arrested for harassment, menacing and substantial fear of deadly force (if the alleged knife incident was true)? Mr. Madeo should have to accept responsibility for his son’s actions. Mr. Madeo should hope that his son has seen the error of his ways, and that this does not become a stepping stone to a scenario that ends in a real tragedy.
Re July 25 article, “DA: No prosecution in tackling case”: Hooray! Common sense is peeking over the horizon! Congratulations to Mr. [Albany County District Attorney] David Soares for not pursuing charges against the Bethlehem homeowner for protecting his home and chasing down [the] person responsible. I know there are a lot of people who feel as I do. There needs to be more common sense shown — about a lot of things. It should start in all homes, from Day One. Stop babying kids; let them realize there’s consequences with everything. I realize a lot of parents try. Just don’t give up, on common sense — everyone!
