The present economy coupled with our social decline and one party rule has played a major part in the decline, not just in rotterdam, but in this entire state and country. It clearly does not matter which party is in power anymore. Again.....they are just a different side of the same coin.

Small towns such as rotterdam continue to try to 'mico-manage' while losing the ability to look at the bigger picture. We continue to rehash the past in hopes of not repeating it.....and yet we continually do so. So while we are turning our sights to what church amedore goes to, what Jimmy C did to little girls or if Joe Siggy is a good plumber or not....our towns, states and country are going down the crapper! IMHO

Admit it gang.  The best Supervisor and the smartest was Paolino.  Doesn't mean he didn't have his faults but
he was fair with his employees and always part of the solution not the problem.  He could think out of the box.  I too woner whaat the town would look like now if Tony J had stayed in.  The weak links in that chain were HV and ST.  While she was busy applying Maybelline, ST was pre-occupied with picking out flag pins.  DM always acted with grace and dignity andTony J did as well.  Never heard sarcastic remarks out of Paolino.  Also Paolino never asked an employee to do anything he would do re: work.

I am not sure to which property on Altamont Avenue which you refer.

I think one thing I liked about the grand union... was it was in a nice central location... and not really infiltrated with people from the hill...

I really wish we would get a new supermarket there...


Other than sitting on here and preaching to the choir that this town is going down hill.. how can we Take our town back and bring it back to the caliber we demand as residents?

The Town Board meets regularly (once a month during the summer and twice a month beginning in September).    Why not attend the meetings, get involved and start asking the Town Board member the "hard" questions.   Make suggestions...send e-mails...engage in discussion with the TB members.  At the last meeting, the TB acknowledged that they read their e-mails and that they will respond to questions!  
This past election demonstrated that the majority of Rotterdam residents vote strictly on "party line" and do not have a clue of what any particular candidate offers.  If the voters had chosen the appropriate candidates and not base it on party designation, it would have resulted in a workable balance.  Currently all we have is an  inexperienced and self-serving super majority.
It's time that everyone start doing their homework, get involved and monitor the current administration!  Hold their feet to the fire...or vote them out if they don't deliver on their promises!

Good one, Tippy!   544 Burdeck and the Repub Club...same owner.   Ya know, it was disclosed at the TB meeting that some of these developers are in arrears with tax payments.  Why would anyone expect them to mow their lawn?

Thank you for your comments and concerns about the present state of the Town of Rotterdam.  Let me tell you a little about what’s being done to address some of the problems you brought up in your email.  As you may be aware, the Rotterdam IDA in conjunction with Metroplex recently helped finalize a deal between Capitol Plaza and BBL, the owners of the Recovery Grill Restaurant.  Demolition of the former site will commence shortly and the hope is that the Recovery Grill will be operating prior to the New Year.  Also, the Town is in talks with the Disabled American Veterans Department of New York, Inc organization about occupying the former Draper School Building.  The DAVD would use the building for an assisted living facility (approximately 150-175 units) for disabled vets and their families.  This project will bring jobs to the area, and serve as a nice and welcome home for some of our veterans.  You may have also noticed renovation beginning on the former Eckerd Building on Guilderland Avenue, which is in the process of becoming a Paesan’s Pizza shop and Laundromat.  

Further, there are two other exciting projects coming down the pike.  Dave Leon, the owner of Planet Fitness gyms is going through the process of receiving approval to develop the old Main Florist property located next to the Dunkin Donuts down by Rotterdam Square Mall and constructing an office facility for his gyms as well as a bank and fast food restaurant.  At our last Town Board meeting, we approved a zone change of a site located next to the Wellington Gardens apartment unit and behind the Mobil gas station on West Campbell Road.  This will soon become the home of Rotterdam Little League’s brand new baseball fields.  The site of their former fields and the old Republican Club will become a residential development apartment complex.

As for Hamburg Street, the Town just received a 5.7 million dollar grant specifically for the improvement of that corridor.  The grant will enable us to repave the main corridor of Hamburg Street (from 4th Street to Stoodley) with curbing, maintenance strips, and add a 14 foot shared bike lane as well as a parking lane and access management.  Further, we will be replacing and installing 8900 feet of sidewalk from Curry Road to Caldicott.  I agree with you that Hamburg Street is important to Rotterdam’s redevelopment and I believe this grant is a big step in the right direction.  By improving the cosmetics of the street, it will make it more appealing for businesses interested in that area.  

We have begun the process of recovery and revitalization, but we have a long ways to go.  I encourage suggestions and dialogue from our residents and I am happy to have had the chance to send you this email.  Like you, I want to see Rotterdam get better and I will work hard to achieve that as Supervisor.

2 weeks ago, I asked FDG about the old Draper school building - he couldn't articulate ANYTHING that was happening there. He knew of NOTHING that was being done with the property, or so he said.  His specific response was "it's private property, I don't know what they're doing with it".

Now, this well written, concise summary of town improvements?  Where'd this come from? Who wrote it for him?  When was he "informed" of the plans?

so  just who is providing the access rd to the new ball park???

more yuck on top of our water source - lye is a great tool to clean grease

i dont see them talking about the "match"ing part of the "big grant" - this is the states way of saying put up or shut up - all surface no real meat like "SEWERS" -

all apartments  - no real housing, no sense of ownership  even albany/troy are changing their tune on appts - no owner, no pride

I can turn GE bldg 273 into an air conditioned palace fit for world wide executives - just dont look in the back ally or behind the curtain - here today gone tomorrow

same goes here all dressing no substance - work with the property owners and build a strong foundation ready for change and the community will respond

town hall was evacuated to day due to smoke

the source  -  not Eunice's calrod hot plate or fridge so old it cant be thrown out because they cant figure out how to remove the door when it is put to the street, but........POPCORN - what will they serve now at town board meetings????  it was way to hot today for turn out gear

If they keep this up Bob Godlewski will get his dream town hall atlanta style - burn it baby, burn it
