My two cents...the downfall of Rotterdam from a Nice Place to Live coincided with the election of Joe Signore to the Rotterdam Town Board.  Under his tenure as Supervisor he was a disaster.  Even Tomassone, Lazzari and Katie O'Connor saw it coming.  Joe is out and the Dems short run comes to end when Tony J wants to spend more time with his family and Viola  enter Steve Tomassone, John Mertz and Joe Signore AGAIN!  Back to the dumpster days.  Ohh to have the days of Jimmy C back.......Not to shabby  IMHO.

The town motto should be changed to:
"A nice place to leave"..because that's what I am going try to do next year when my last child graduates HS.
I'm sick of the abandoned real estate, the riff-raff oozing in from Schenectady, and cronyism of the town government. Low taxes used to be a big draw for the town, no longer...
I just don't know if I can sell my home with a profit big enough to allow me to move.

Not Steve's "fault"  Steve was not Supervisor timber either was Signore.  Both political bimbo's who should have stayed council members.  Pure and simple they were in wayyyyyy over there heads.  Created the town we are now so ashamed to call home.  JMHO though but can't help but wonder what would have been had Tony J stayed on the town council.  Paolino might still be Town Super.  Now there was a leader.

Paolino would have been fine if it was a dictatorship...but he wouldn't work out in a supervisor/council setting.
I observed enough during his Mohonasen days to be convinced of it

But you have to admit Tbird, he was better than the two bozo's.  Dictator was what the town needed after Joe's fiasco.  Steve was even worse because he polarized the town into us (GOP) and them (DEMS)  not a recipie for tenure.  Jimmy C and John K worked with both parties and it worked.  The bozo's didn't have the depth or intuition to know how to maintain.  All the while the town melted away.  I do hear that the vacuum of failed admin will probably continue until one of the parties stops the blantant abuse of power.  FDG should have cleaned house but he didn't.  End of days.

agreed...Paolino is fine provided he's not challenged..it just doesn't work that way in politics.

JS was a buffoon who has no business running a ice cream stand let alone a town.
ST got full of himself..I'm a registered repub and I asked for some help with an obvious zoning violation going on in my neighborhood and got nothing but stonewalled...I didn't shed a tear when ST lost.
JC stewarded what JK left him, I doubt JC could have built it on his own.

It must be very very painful for Steve and mertzie and siggy to drive around town and see the run down buildings still standing as the evil Tomassone empire lays in ruins eh?  Poor fellas really have no legacy to point to as accomplishments unless of course you take pride in urban blight that permeated the town under Steve's gluttony.

And he wants to make a comeback? Take it from Siggy that doesn't work.  The "Peeps" never forgive
or forget.

Jimmy C was a great politician. He knew how to keep everyone happy from all special interest groups yet maintained low taxes. He was able to do this because his motivation was not money or patronage jobs, it was power and women which eventually took him down. Siggy is not capable of supervising a toilet clogging crew and Tommasone had no political accumen. Rotterdam will continue to decline for many years because of the political combat zone it now is.

[b]Altamont Avenue is a discrace!

Upon return to our home, I was shocked to find that there was a total lack of Code Enforcement with the Used Car Business who are out of compliance with their final site plan. They have erected unauthorized signs and display their vehicles in the green space and in the right of way. The authroized Handicap Parking has been removed by replacing it with their Dealership sign.

1705 Altamont Avenue is a total desgrace to the town. It has been neglected for the past 25 years.  The  Building Department and Code Enforcement has been invited into the interior by the tenants and they refuse to respond to their complaints. What is going on with the Building Department?

At the Pizza place next to the Used Car Dealer there is a new out door cafe in the parking lot where the Handicap Parking use to be. Sandwich boards all over Altamont Avenue.

Altamont Avenue is a haven for drug dealers and unsavory characters walking and hanging around.

YOu KNOW times are changing ... Rotterdam is going to the dogs .. when I actually have to admit that I *agree* with peeper on this statement.  I'm not convinced that Siggy is the cause of ALL the issues, but I do believe he's the issue for a LOT of it.

This is the one thing that DM and I always agreed on.

Now that I've said that, I feel SO dirty

Welcome to the sty MT.  Wanna have a mud wrestling contest?   Siggy had his own party turn on him.  He WAS a problem that escalulated the demise of the core fiber of the town.  A dumb bell politico who took his marching orders from Johnny D and Tommy D, neither one of them the brightest political bulbs in the socket!  Steve needed to buy him off with a police appt for his son to avoid a primary.  Funny as it seems Siggy's was never a politcal heavy weight he was a "victim" of circumstance.  One of the dumbest politicians ever to grace the hallowed halls of Town Hall.  HeHeHe
