Christine M. until recently was on the Schd'y. IDA. Robert M. is chair of the Rotterdam IDA. Rotterdam IDA is run by Metroplex now. The Belvedere & Malozzi's is right across the street from Capital Plaza, (an eyesore at the least). The Belvedere has been for sale for years, its PILOT is soon to expire and there will a be full tax load. Do you put a profitable business up for sale? Will the Recovery Grill enhance the sale of the Belvedere? Yes, no one would argue the Capital Plaza has been a Town blight for years and needs to be addressed, but the current players in conjunction with the timing . . . . . .
next they will be doing things with shell companies selling from one to another and refiling for PILOTs it is a clever ploy, works for about 4 generations then the house of cards comes crashing down

The problem with Rotterdam is that for too many years we have been griping and moaning about high property taxes then when a legitimate business comes along .. certain folks come out of the wood work to fight the new business venture.

The Capital Plaza was comprised of "new business" ventures at one time, as was the Grand Union on Hamburg St., as was Feuz mfg. on Mariaville Rd., as was the 4 corners market, as was the old Draper High School, as was the old Edgewood Restaurant, as was the Curry Rd. Shopping Plaza, Shoporama Pizza, etc. etc. I think people are more concerned about what type of business it is ( ie. gin mill ), how many jobs it will provide, the liklihood of sustained success, and the potential to create a new blight from a failed, defunct "new business" venture. To these issues, I would say the concerns are valid. I also do not recall seeing anyone "fighting" this project, merely expressing concerns about the need for another gin mill especially when the food rating reviews are mediocre at best.
