Parisi to run for 105th Assembly District

Sean Ahern 05/07/10
Republican Rotterdam town board member, Gerard Parisi, was selected over incumbent George Amedore to run for the 105th Assembly District this November.

Parisi, who was formerly the Town Attorney for the Town of Rotterdam and is currently the lone Republican on the board, was picked over Amdedore for his fiscally conservative ideas and credentials that includes experience as a CPA and a practicing attorney, according to a release, the town GOP said that his professional experience in these areas were "key ingredients" that could help deal with the state's financial problems.

"I am overwhelmed right now by the incredible showing of support from the committee and I am honored to be selected by them to represent the taxpayers in the Assembly," said Parisi in a release. "As a result of hearing their voice, I am very likely to proceed with this challenge."

Rotterdam Republican committeewoman Mary Barrie said Parisi is an intelligent and well spoken individual willing to stand against the crowd.

"The residents of Rotterdam are finally getting to see Gerard the way we have known him for years. He is an intelligent, well-spoken professional who is not afraid to stand up for principles and against the crowd," said Barrie in a statement. "That is exactly what we need in Albany right now"

Schenectady County Legislature Angelo Santabarbara, D-Rotterdam, may also run for the 105th Assembly District in the coming year. Santabarbara, who changed from the Republican to the Democratic party at the beginning of the year has said if he does decide to run for the seat currently held by Amedore, that he will run his race in the same manner whomever the Republicans pick as their candidate.

In my opinion, I don't think GP has a shot. Good candidate or not, Amedore is very very well liked in the district. He was named one of the top conservative officials in the state.  And I don't think that being endorsed by the rotterdam reps carries too much weight for a state position. Perhaps other towns in the district will also endorse him....time will tell.

November is a long time away!

ROTTERDAM
Town Board member challenging Amedore for Assembly
Parisi move could force a fall primary
BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

Republican Gerard Parisi plans to run for office in November, but not for the Rotterdam Town Board seat he now occupies.
The former town attorney has decided to run for the state Assembly’s 105th District, challenging for a seat now occupied by fellow Republican George Amedore. The town Republican Committee picked Parisi as their candidate for the district Thursday, even though the endorsement will ultimately be decided by the GOP committees in Schenectady and Montgomery counties.
“There were 31 votes last night and [Amedore] didn’t get one,” Parisi said Friday.
Amedore said he fully intends to run for a second term and he believes the county committee will continue to support him when he does announce his reelection campaign.
“[County Chairman Tom Buchanan] assures me that I’ll be the endorsed candidate for the Republicans in Schenectady County,” he said.
Amedore discounted the challenge as coming from a vocal minority of disgruntled Republicans in the district. Primarily, he said the Republicans siding with Parisi are the same ones who feel slighted following the party’s abysmal showing during the election for town offices in 2009.
“This is a small group of individuals in the committee who lost in November’s elections and are somewhat upset,” he said.
Still, the town’s endorsement of Parisi could set the stage for a primary between him and Amedore.
Democrats in the district haven’t endorsed a candidate, but party leaders have suggested Schenectady County Legislator Angelo Santabarbara may receive the nod. .................>>>>.................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01100&AppName=1

Rotterdam Republican (appointed not elected) town board member Gerard Parisi plans to primary Republican George Amedore (elected)105th District.

Parisi the obstructionist (bump on a log) board member, fame to claim is to complicate economic development with more rules.  This does not sound like a Republican.  Amedore a good man in an evil house is not god enough to overcome evil.  Neither candidate holds a promise for constructive change.

The alternative is 'another' Democrat to grow Sheldon Silver's legion.  A 'legion of the damned' to be sure.

The only chance the voter has is if the minor parties stop endorsing candidates in the major parties & submit a candidate of their own.  The minor parties have to get out of the camp follower mode.  Public service not patronage should be the lure.

With Parisi & Amedore the only thing that changes is the clock on the wall & the calendar on January First.

Obstructionist? What is he obstructing? Illegal activities? Ill-conceived development? Giving out favors to campaign donors? Yeah, I guess I see why you'd say he's an obstructionist. But, I for one, am damn glad he is up there obstructing this nonsense. God can only imagine what would be going on up there if Parisi wasn't there to add sunlight....

I hope this is a trial balloon. We need more Assembly REPS to slow Shelly's death grip on NYS businesses.

GP is a brilliant attorney who should be looking at one of the two open County judge positions {Surrogate/Family}. Instead both will go DEM while he gets crushed in the REP primary. Another example of the total lack of leadership.

105TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
GOP committeee’s endorsement stirs up controversy
BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

The chairman of the Schenectady County Republican Committee plans to contest the endorsement the Rotterdam Republican Committee gave to Gerard Parisi in his bid to run for the 105th Assembly District seat in November.
Tom Buchanan called Thursday’s vote by the town committee invalid because it did not include a notice of endorsement on the agenda. “Parisi is leading people to believe it has a legal effect when it does not,” Buchanan said.
Buchanan said he is stepping into the matter to “ensure the integrity of the town committee endorsement process, especially given the irregularities of the town meeting in which county committee members in the town feel they were misled or tricked.”
Parisi said the town committee’s endorsement is valid, setting up a potential clash between him and Buchanan. “Any business that comes before the committee is proper,” he said.
Buchanan said the county committee’s executive committee supports incumbent Assemblyman George Amedore, R-Rotterdam, for the seat. Parisi is a member of the Rotterdam town board but said he does not plan to seek re-election.
The town committee took up the endorsement of Parisi under new business and used proxies of members not present to make the vote unanimous, Buchanan said. He said had members who signed the proxies known the committee was going to consider an endorsement, they would have left instructions on whom to endorse.
A committee member, who asked her name not be used, said she would not have sent in her proxy had she known it would be used to endorse Parisi. The member said she supports Amedore. ..............>>>>................>>>>............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01203&AppName=1

I say we have a public vote (not a committee vote) on Buchanan .. let the residents decide who's going to lead the republican party - not a bunch of lifer committee-people who nobody knows that happen to get their name onthe ballot.

It's time for the public to stand up against Buchanan - else the Republican party will continue the death rattle eminating from within

I'm not a particular fan of TB, but it appears that GP tried to pull a fast one here. Although the vote appears to be on the up and up on paper and in GP eyes, it also appears that GP tried to slip this one under the door.

Perhaps GP has stacked the deck through committee members in his favor only to over throw buchanan in the end. Perhaps? This is sounding all too familiar. Who might be helping GP? What local political party did this happen to before? ....unsuccessfully...

In this case, TB has acted accordingly. IMHO

WOW!  How embarASSing is that???  Everyone knows that Parisi is a slime ball, but to have Buchanan refer to his actions as "slick political maneuvering" speaks volumes.

Ok, maybe I had Buchanan pegged wrong as being one of the Tommasone/Mertz/Signore/Parisi losers, but honestly I have never read any of these guys standing up for what is right.

To have the county chairman call out a sitting Republican is pretty impressive.  I thought they were all afraid of Gerard.

To make matters worse, is it true that Buchanan told Longo to step down after these shananigans?

As Benny says, Buchanan needs to clean out the barn!

Buchanan is trying to pass the blame on to someone else. His leadership is looking less than stellar. He apparently promised George the endorsement (can he even do that?), without listening to the people. Tom is the 1 acting underhanded here. Perhaps he thinks he will be rewarded with another Assembly no show job?

I would have thought the same thing. But not in this case. GA is a popular 'sitting' assemblyman. That is a no brainer. It appears that not all committee people knew exactly what was on the committee meeting's agenda. So I agree....re-vote and give ALL of the committee people a chance to vote on issues they are aware of. Then let the cards fall where they may. If GP is that confident, he should not object.

In either case....GA will win again.

Hello, will the real "John"" poster please identify yourself?

Gerard, I mean Black Spidey, you can guess all you want who I am.  Reality is that you'll find me standing with those who care about more than themselves.  I'll give you one hint, you see me at least three times a week (maybe next time I'll wink)

This process is wonderful, everyone will get to judge Gerard as a candidate.  Moral, ethical and trust are all fair game.
