From what I understand, it is difficult to get the endorsement from the major parties if you are independent and principled.  Further,
winning an election as an independent candidate running on a third party line appears to be impractical and often serves to split the
vote (e.g., Ross Perot).

I don't believe that you'll see change in Rotterdam town government until the residents take a greater interest and become informed.
This will occur as property taxes continue to escalate, property values falls, and public services are reduced.

Anybody care to share what their town taxes have been the last three or so years?  has there been that big of an escalation? or is the increase in taxes at the county and school levels?.......just curious

COUNTY is the winner here! Anyone ever go to one of the county leg. meetings?

As a Rep committee person, I did not attend the dinner.  It has nothing to do with lack of support for the new chair Jim Longo or county chair Tom Buchanan.  Gerard is doing an outstanding job and Frank Salamone will make a nice young, new face on the TB.

It's about money.  I personally didn't have $55.00 of disposal income.  It's about the economy and the threat of furloughs.  I just couldn't justify spending money for a dinner for myself.  I would rather give less money directly to someone's campaign at this time.  That's more important to me.

I'm a frugal environmentalist.  Something many posters on this forum cannot believe can be possible!  It's called being a conservative (small c) with your own money and other's money.  Use it wisely.

The candidates know I'll be hoofing for them at lit drops.  That I can afford to do and it might help them more.

Through that factor into your statistics.  Apparently many of you don't have to watch your funds as closely.  Glad you have it.

Taxes?  Look at your tax bill.  Look at the county numbers.  That's where your money goes, but apparently Schenectady County residents don't care.

Completely understood. $55 is a big hit sometimes, especially if you don't know if you're gonna be on furlough or even have a job in 3-6-12 months. There's plenty of ways to support - sounds like you're doing the right thing!

I'm not a committee person or anything, however I will be right there with ya husky!  Not that I am a staunch republican, because I vote based on the philosophy and character of the individuals running not just straight party line.  For instance, I think Frank Pidgeon (ran on the dem ticket a few years ago for TB) would have been an OUTSTANDING choice.  He is bright, honest and is just a great family guy.  It just seems that including and since the Constantino days, the dems really haven't been keeping the towns best interests at heart, rather their own personal agendas.  It's a shame because I'm a firm believer in checks and balances.

I agree that the Dems would have had a good candidate in Frank Pidgeon...really nice guy.

But alas, they went with Calder, who will clearly become a quick part of the Dem machine.  I doubt very highly he'll have much say in anything, or speak up.  Shame, shame.

I'm not much for dems, but I actually liked Silva on the tb.

Agreed there, too! He was a reasonable board member.  Never did we ever see him try to pull partisan crap.  He was a solid addition to the board, and is sorely missed.  Also, I'm willing to bet he'd consider the current Dem admin a mockery of good gov't!

John Silva was indeed an excellent board member and his absense is still being felt today. He would have been the only sane voice of reason on this board now controlled by the merry band of idiots.

Frank Pidgeon is a terrific guy.  Known him and his family since he was a baby.  Did he WANT to run again?  I never heard that.  Agreed for all the hype against Silva, I thought he was solid.

I knew Silva. He couldn't believe how antiquated this town and it's government was! Well, things haven't changed too much and it won't get better for at least another 2 years!
