Crosstraining does not involve complete upheaval of the town support staff.  It means support staff learn one another's jobs in a particular office, like they all know each other's jobs in the supervisor's office, DPW, Clerk, Assessors, etc.

It does NOT involve moving bodies around when they are in a career track such as Cindy Dumar.  This is just disrputive and poor management at the cost of delivery of services to the taxpayers in Town.

Maybe the next supervisor hopefuls should be TRAINED in management skills.  Running a private business is not the same as running a government office.  There are different employment rules for civil service workers.

I hope these grievances stand the the impacted workers are returned to their jobs.  This is a ridiculous, lack of judgement on the town supervisor and the assistant supervisor.

Stupid question but wasn't Cindy Dumar hired for Town clerk's office?  Didn't Steve move Kim Bruhns to Hwy so he could hire Lynn Fiorillo?  Where did these 3-4 workers work during the Tommasone Admin?  Did Steve move people around?  Did Paolino?  Did Signore? Did Constantino?  Did Kirvin?  Maybe I am dense but who is the Town Supervisor Frank DelGallo or Conard Johnson?  Whose running Town Hall, Tommasone appointees or Frank DelGallo?

Personally, I'd be happy to have a job, the alternatives SUCK!!!

I believe that you are accurate in saying that previous town supervisors moved workers around.
However, I personally believe that Diane Martin does a great job in the Supervisor's Office and Molly
does a great job at the Senior Center.  If it is just a temporary move for cross-training purposes - I have
no problem with the decision.   If it is a "permanent move", I strongly object.

Well with all of the switcharooing that has gone on in the past, it appears that there is no need for 'cross training' AGAIN! Rotterdam just keeps moving the same people around over and over and over. How much cross training do they need? Are we missing something here?

And I agree that having a job is quite better than the alternative. But are you implying that there is a chance that some  people could lose their jobs in rotterdam's town hall? Is this a 'my way or the highway' kinda thing going on? Are jobs actually being threatened?

Now I saw Typist and Accounting Specialist as titles referenced.  I don't know if these are actual civil service titles, but I would think these two titles are very different.  A typist would not be required to have accounting education at any level, or be tested for such.  So, how can the dingbat super take a typist and require her to do accounting work, I would think that's out of title work.

Between all typists, it's one thing to cross train, to help out when someone might be out, but I wouldn't think that would mean change hours, does it mean change in work locations?

What is the time table put on the cross training?  30,60,90 days?  1 year?

for guy who is trying to pay fewer taxes FDG seems to be going the wrong way

cut jobs and raise taxes 10+% - proposed budget 2011

rotate typists on a lazzzzzy susan without requard for civil service agreements and the risk of binding arbitration

and mediation at $6500 an issue

seems like a big waste of money

and all over the feeling others are conspiring against your will   -   this is the core issue

FDG and Bobby G- get over it

Supervisor or Deputy Supervisor is just a title

The Town Board Members give you permission to sign your name on behalf of the town

You are only one vote of 5 at the dais

CEO, CFO, CIO - you are not

anyone of those positions does not need to go to the board of directors to get approval on every major contract or purchase

Last year the "cross training" was done for about a week or so.

accident on that side of town.
