You know it’s an election year when you start seeing press releases in which someone takes credit or announces something that wasn’t entirely their doing.
Such was the case today, when Schenectady County Legislator Democrat Angelo Santabarbara (who is challenging Assemblyman Republican George Amedore in November) e-mailed out a statement about how the county legislature approved an extension on Stratton Air National Guard Base’s lease to 2050. Apparently, the head of Metroplex brokered the deal and the legislature just signed off on it.
County Legislature Chairwoman Democrat Susan Savage (herself running against state Senator Hugh Farley) likely decided to throw Santabarbara a bone and let him announce it. (Savage did put her name on the press release today about Schenectady County Family Movie Nights).
Santabarbara said that he would have promoted the deal anyway, and it has nothing to do with his Assembly run. He said he wanted to be tied to this announcement because of his military background, as he served in the Army Reserves for eight years out of high school.
Props have to be given, at least, for the fact that he let someone know the deal happened.
“I’m a county legislator, civil engineer, I have a cheese company and I served in the military,” Santabarbara said by phone, “it all somehow combines and makes me who I am.”
BL--I am amused by your comments on what can be taken "seriously." You call it "career politician" and if it were YOU, you would be labeling it dedication to public service. You were so anxious to become that career plitician you created a new line just so that you could get what you wanted without benefit of an established party. Candidate secures new line on ballot ROTTERDAM — Democrat Angelo Santabarbara will have a new line on the ballot in November. The Schenectady County legislator running for the state Assembly’s 105th District seat collected enough signatures to secure a line on the “Change Albany Now” line. To create the independent party line, he filed a petition with more than 2,500 signatures, which is 1,000 more than required under state election law. “Voting for me on this party line will help voters send a message to state government that they are fed up with Albany’s dysfunction and real changes must be made now,” he said in a statement released Wednesday. Still unclear is who his opponent will be. Next month, incumbent Republican George Amedore Jr. is hoping to fend off a primary challenge from Gerard Parisi, a member of the Rotterdam Town Board. But even if Amedore loses the Republican endorsement, his name will appear on the ballot. He secured endorsements from both the Conservative and Independence parties. If elected, Santabarbara is pledging to support new ethics standards, cap state spending and help attract new businesses. He said his new party line is intended to help voters send a message to the state government.
New "ethics standards"? Are you kidding Ang???? Tell us about your new standards of betrayal...of those who elected you in the first place. Tell us about your relatives running around the county collecting petition signatures for the liberal Demokratz they once claimed to despise. Tell us about about your new and close relationship with the Savage Beast...about the most evil witch on earth. Tell us about how you have quickly learned to deceive and exploit Conservatives, just as your new mentors have always done. Tell us about your uncle's obsession with power...he has made it clear he will do anything to gain a seat on the Executive Board of the Schenectady County Conservative Party...nevermind that it is a paper tiger and that there is no Committee to speak of...or that he will be just another puppet of "back office Chair" DellaRocco and the Kratz...as long as he gets what he wants, who cares if he is a meaningless whore?? By the way Ang, can you tell your uncle to get on that resignation from the Ethics Board?
Angelo...your brand of ethics could even bring Albany to a new low, especially under the guidance of the Savage Beast and the Defect campaign manager.
Oh and by the way Ang...your new friends are screwing your parents out of their Conservative Committee seats. I hope they feel good when they find out that Duanesburg Conservatives won't be fooled by your last name...they know what you are now...and forging petition signatures won't change that. So while your parents were bumped out of their uncontested seats for one of Hamilton's pals who couldn't beat them, they will be sacrificed in Duanesburg and your new pals know it.
I am fully aware of the game in play here Tippy...but it will leave Angelo forever tarnished...win, lose or draw...and it does not excuse what he and his relatives are doing.
If Angelo Santabarbara and Susan Savage ever got elected, they would continue to propose 'useless', 'unenforceable' legislation such as driving while texting and the BPA law that is clearly NOT enforceable. I'm not saying they are not without some merit......but a total waste of time!!! People are still talking and texting while driving and people go elsewhere to purchase their plastic! REALLY THEY DO!
If Santabarbara loses this bid, he will be tarnished forever!!! IMHO
