I had the chance to hear Chris Gibson answer questions from a small group of individuals that included former Ziegler campaign team members and leaders of several Tea Party organizations. Chris spent two and one-half hours sitting in the living room of Ziegler's home and did not leave until every question was answered and most attendees had left.
His positions appear to be very conservative for the most part. His position on abortion restricts the time at which a woman can receive the procedure to the first trimester. He is against any public funding of abortion. His positions on economic issues are quite conservative. He believes in smaller government and has made suggestions of where the federal government could be downsized with the elimination of the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Education (because we have a State Education Dept). Closing the Federal Department of Education would keep our tax money at home, closer to the people, so that it can be spent more effectively and the parents and those in the community can decide how it should best be spent to educate our youth.
Smaller government, Return decision making to the state and local governments thereby restricting the power of the federal government (consistent with the 10th Amendment), fiscal conservatism.
Gibson, a distinguished and decorated veteran (silver stars, purple heart, etc.) will win the support of the veterans. He will also have much support from the Tea Party activists. Chris will win back the 20th in November and continue to shift back to the right and the restoration in government of American values.
Those in the 21st CD who want to support the Gibson campaign are needed in the 20th and other areas.

I saw him on tv and he sounded very good, and obviously a far better candidate than Murphy. No contest.
I will probably vote for Gibson, but since he is not 100% prolife, won't contribute $$ to his campaign, call talk shows or write letters to editors to help him. I only go through all that when I have more passion for a candidate (prolife from conception to natural death). I hope the GOP has more than one candidate, and I hope we get to vote in the primaries. Sometimes the GOP shuts registered Republicans out of the process.
So, any Republican candidates lining up to challenge Tonko in the 21st?
Yes, his position on life is far better than Murphy's, plus he is better on all of the other conservative issues, which is why I expect to vote for him.
It's just that I go all out for strong prolifers, beyond just voting. In fact, I contributed to Doug Hoffman's campaign, even though I'm not from his district.
Let's take away Pelosi's gavel, one congressperson at a time.

It starts with images of Gibson in the military and a female narrator who says, “from Kinderhook to Kosovo, Iraq, Haiti.” A male narrator steps in, “wherever America faced serious challenges, Chris Gibson answered the call.” The message is: Gibson will use his leadership skills learned on the job in the military to represent you in Congress.

I knew Chris Gibson when we were both students at Siena - he was a couple years behind me - but we did take a history course together. From what I remember about him, he was an intelligent, well-mannered youngman .. and from what I have read about him recently, he has distinguished himself quite well during his military career and has a nice family. For the record, I know Scott Murphy's wife from when I was a teacher at St. Mary's in Glens Falls. Her maiden name is Hogan .. and I taught her and her cousin (the Warren Count DA). I never met Scott Murphy. Since I am not a resident of the district, I am glad that I don't have to vote on that contest .. while I am a Democrat, I would have to say (for the record) that I hope that Chris Gibson wins -- mainly because "old school ties" trump everything except if he were a family member.

Republican candidate Chris Gibson erroneously claims that Rep. Scott Murphy isn’t a real “fi scal conservative.” Apparently Gibson believes that he can rely on deceptive attacks to hide from the consequences of his own party’s policies. When the GOP took power in 2001, it inherited the Clinton administration’s massive budget surplus. Republicans sharply reduced taxes for millionaires. As a result, when Gibson’s party left office in 2009, we had a huge budget deficit, combined with a rapidly sinking economy. Of course when Bush’s defi cits were spiraling out of control, one could hardly hear a peep from the “deficit hawks” of the Gibson variety. Now that these income tax cuts for the very wealthy are due to expire, it’s the very same GOP “deficit hawks” that favor renewing them. Is this Gibson’s idea of fiscal responsibility and, oh yes, “shared sacrifi ce?” Before attacking anyone on fi scal issues, Gibson should be clarifying his position on the Bush tax cuts. However, I would wager that without considerable prodding, we will hear little on this subject from “deficit hawk” Gibson. Expect to hear a good deal more from Gibson and his brethren when it comes to cutting Social Security and Medicare. They tell us that the “entitlements” are the cause of our problems. They conveniently chose to ignore the fact that Social Security is a totally self-funding program that has always taken in more revenue than it has paid out. And therefore they refuse to except any responsibility for the fact that the current “deficit crisis” results from the government taking in insuffi cient tax revenue to fund other government activities. Millionaire tax cuts, which were supported by the so-called defi cit hawks like Gibson, bear much of the responsibility for our current problems. So remember, Mr. Gibson, those who live in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones.
The WASP forgot to mention the 911 attacks and what happened to the entire economy and stock market for months and years after that tragic day. Like it never happened. But if you were drawing a public salary without interruption somewhere in the state then your gravy train was not even slowed down while your great grandchildren went into debt. In order to pick the economy back up the tax cuts came up (of course we just found out for the first time they weren't ONLY for the rich as we discuss the liberals wanting to let them expire) and these crazy political class rulers want to suck more $$$ out of our American economy. Talk about not wanting to control spending...how disgusting they are. This Obama deficit spending makes all others look paltry.

Tx cuts are the solution and NOT the problem. Since WW2, the 4 periods of prolonged economic expansion were preceded by cuts in Federal Income Tax. Just the fear of raising income taxes forces business - large and small - to hesitate with plans to expand and add jobs. The once proud Japanese economy has suffered through a "lost decade" of malaise and recession because it raised taxes rather keeping them level or cutting them. Mr. Gibson will do well if he continues to campaign on a platform of cutting taxes and shrinking the bloated size of our Federal government.

For instance, Fannie and Freddie were badly abused by Andrew Cuomo at HUD, who kept encouraging them to issue more and more sub-prime loans until the bubble burst
The republicans took office during Clinton's term, that's why we had a surplus
The democrats took office during Bush's term and we got TARP
It's entirely possible that if the republicans take over in November, 0bama will get the credit for whatever they do to fix things, and he could actually be reelected in 2012

With each swing of the houses from D to R and back again, both sides are swinging further to the left. We're now to the point where the republicans are democrats and the democrats are socialists. Neither side is really any better than the other. We're only being given choices of socialist or socialist-lite
Swinging the pendulum back to the right won't happen overnight. Just as we've been slowly nudged to the left, we must urge a swing to the right from both parties.
Chris Gibson would be a swing to the right. He's fiscally conservative, and Constitutionally sound, maybe we can get somebody who's 100% prolife next time. For now, the house is on fire, lets wait til we put the fire out to start planning a family
