Program gives job hunters an edge
Schenectady chamber revives Certificate of Employability initiative

SCOTIA -- Finding employment is about to get easier for Schenectady County residents.
     
On Tuesday, the Chamber of Schenectady County revived its Certificate of Employability program. The announcement came during a news conference at Glen Sanders Mansion.
The program teaches participants such skills and values as problem solving, communication, professionalism and teamwork. It runs a full semester.

The program grew out of a meeting between county chamber members and local business leaders after the chamber asked them what they needed.

"The bottom line -- they need work-ready job candidates," said Leesa Perazzo, the county director of workforce development.

The county developed a partnership among businesses, educators and job seekers to offer professional training through classes. About 100 businesses have pledged to give preference to graduates of the program.

Like this makes sense! $60,000 to help people learn how to land a job! WHAT JOBS????  I would like to see the stats on exactly how many people who use this service actually get a job and exactly WHERE and WHAT KIND of job they land.

Isn't that the same thing they used to teach us in school but some how the schools have forgotten about teaching those programs and instead the teach the kids to call DSS if their parents discipline them, how to dial W for welfare, and G for government help. Go back to basics and teach reading, writing, arithmetic, and how to become self sufficient for starters.
