Sales tax revenue down $48.5M locally
The Business Review (Albany)

Capital Region counties suffered a $48.5 million decline in sales tax revenue from 2008 to 2009, according to new state data.

The 11-county area collected $618.2 million in sales taxes in 2009, according to the state Department of Taxation and Finance. That is a 7 percent decline from 2008 totals.

The New York State Association of Counties said at least 52 counties of the 62 counties across the state continue to experience falling sales tax revenue. For many, the fourth quarter of 2009 was the fifth straight quarter of declining collections.

“We knew the numbers would not be good, but no one predicted they would be this dismal,” said Tom Santulli, the association’s president.

Sales taxes and property taxes are the two main sources of revenue for county governments.

In the Capital Region, every county collected fewer sales taxes last year than in 2008.

Here’s a breakdown, showing the dollar amount of the year-to-year decline, and the percent difference:

• Albany: an $18.4 million decline, which is a drop of 7.8 percent;

• Columbia: $1.4 million; 4.4 percent;

• Fulton: $986,000; 5.6 percent;

• Greene: $2.3 million; 8.6 percent;

• Montgomery: $2.4 million; 9.5 percent;

• Rensselaer: $2.7 million; 4 percent;

• Saratoga: $8 million; 8.3 percent;

• Schenectady: $5.7 million; 6.7 percent;

• Schoharie: $1 million; 7.5 percent;

• Warren: $3.7 million; 8.1 percent;

• Washington: $1.8 million; 10 percent.

This cannot be correct. Metrograft was supposed to start a "renaissance"-- an increase in sales tax revenues/increase in jobs. Death Ray stated this many times.  Now Schenectady County sales tax receipts have tanked more than Columbia, Rensselaer and Fulton all counties without Metrograft?

      But don't fret. Sure the savings on Canadian drugs will more than offset this loss of revenue-lol-

Like they didn't see this coming! Don't tell me they didn't see this coming last year. WE DID!  'We the people' knew the economy was going down the toilet a year ago. Idiot!

They said because of the "renaissance" downtown the sales tax revenues would go up.

     So what if you can't buy anything except an overpriced drink. So what if lower State St {below Erie} looks like a neutron bomb went off. So what if Crane, Van Vranken, Eastern, Broadway all have one shuttered businesses after another. It's a "renaissance" because Death Ray, the Gazetto and Stratton all said it was a "renaissance". That should be enough for yous.

I just posted a comment on Mr. Amedore's facebook page asking for his remarks on this situation.

For anyone else who would like to remark there, his page is http://www.facebook.com/#/george.amedore.

CAPITAL REGION
Sales tax revenue sees significant decline

BY JASON SUBIK Gazette Reporter

    Total sales tax collected in New York state in 2009 declined 5.84 percent from 2008, but for most Capital Region counties, the decline was even worse.
    Montgomery County’s sales tax fell the farthest, declining 9.51 percent; Saratoga County’s fell 8.26, Albany County dropped 7.75 percent, Schoharie County lost 7.48 percent and Schenectady County’s receipts were 6.68 percent less than in 2008. Fulton County did a little better than the state as a whole; its receipts decreased 5.57 percent.
    New York state collected $21.8 billion in sales tax for 2009, down $1.4 billion from 2008. The state’s share of the money was $9.9 billion.
    John Rodat, the Albany County commissioner of management and budget, said his county was particularly hard hit because it relies so heavily on sales tax. In 2007, Albany County’s sales tax produced 43.3 percent of the county’s total revenues. The statewide average was 32.9 percent. ................>>>>...............>>>>............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00900&AppName=1

Schenectady County officials did not return phone calls seeking comment?-lol-

     Under our new County development team led by Sue Savage (State Senator in waiting) and Ray, the sales tax figures for our County, tanked $5.7 MILLION in one year! This should not concern the County sheeple. We will continue dumping millions on one block of State St, move companies from Rotterdam to the City and build a new County Home. Unlike every other County there is no reason to belt tighten. Full speed ahead-damn the assessments!
