The NNTP and Tea Parties do in fact have leaders by default. The point you are missing is, the people in these loose leadership positions aren't bought and paid for by multi-million/billion dollar corporations, or driven by personal financial gains. These leaders aren't getting involved to assure their law firm represents the town, or certain clients get IDA tax breaks, or steer Metroplex money to friends, family, or business acquaintances.
What spidey and TBV are suggesting is that the NNTP supporters need to support Republican candidates regardless of their motives for wanting to serve. I will not vote Dem or Rep based on the track record of both party’s candidates and their obvious motives for service. Schenectady didn't get the way it is because of a 3rd party alternative. Actually, quite the contrary is true, the fact that the corrupt 2 parties continue to run this government, is why we are where we are.
Felipe, NNTP doesn't report to any political bosses? I think Brian Kolb qualifies as a political boss. The funny part is NNTP bashes the common parties to rally support behind their noble cause yet they do so with money and man-hour support from RACC!what bunch of lying self serving...Politicians. As soon as the public realizes the purpose of the NNTP is to allow RACC to control local politics, the people will revolt.
For all ~ the above quote is a perfect example of why the local Reps will continue to lose.
As for NNTP reporting to Brian Kolb ~ who really shot JFK? AND ~ I am sure you believe 9/11 was carried out by secret American black opps ~ you ~ my friend ~ are a nut job. Last time I checked only one of the NNTP guys works for Mr. Kolb ~ AND ~ HE is NOT the chairman of the NNTP. For that matter ~ I understand he will not be one of their candidates for '11.
Here's what you don't get ~ many of the tea party supporters ~ NNTP ~ and alike ~ are ENROLLED REPS! The problem is ~ and has been ~ in the lack of leadership ~ the voice of what the Republican party was supposed to stand for. When the local GOP has a conservative like Surhada ~ giving the okay to support a tax district ~ you're in deep trouble.
I love to give predictions ~ here's one ~ the NNTP will field candidates and the majority of them will be enrolled Republicans. They won't care either way if a chairman or committee supports them because they can always run a Mike O'Connor primary and win. Yes ~ I understand that Mike didn't win the general ~ but I'll bet he wins the next one he runs in!
Of course the local party bosses don't like these guys ~ because the NNTP does not need them. And ~ what party boss likes a primary?
Now ~ I could be completely wrong ~ the local GOP may be really really organized and energized ~ with great candidates. Therefore ~ they have no concerns.
BUT ~ I think it's pretty clear ~ there is no organization ~ no fundraising ~ no energy ~ no loyalty ~ no respect ~ no candidates ~ and nobody supports or respects the county chairman ~ that = continued losses.
I agree with and respect your post, Felipe. Few things:
Hundreds OF thousands of people voted for Obama...they are reaping what they sowed.
The Reps are to blame for their wrongs, certainly. But there are other contributing factors!
When does the leader of the NNTP become a "political boss?" Who makes that determination? That's the funny part about this, to me...the NNTP is no different than anyone! They want "their way" or the highway. So does everyone else. They had support in the last election. They'll probably have it in the next. But then, people will get sick of them and move onto the next thing. The shameful part is that they lead people to believe they are something they are not. They are another party...with another boss...with another agenda. Plain and simple.
TBV ~ that might be the best post you have put on the board!
Yes ~ you can argue there is blame to go around ~ how much time will you spend allocating percentages to the blame?
Also ~ let's not forget ~ DelGallo and his handlers ran a great campaign. Fundraising like Rotterdam has never seen before ~ sign locations out of this world ~ organization second to none ~ motivation unmatched by either the Reps or NNTP ~ a positive and team based campaign. While your allocating percentages for blame ~ maybe we can allocate percentages for why they earned the win.
"When does the leader of the NNTP become a "political boss?" Who is the leader of the NNTP? I don't believe their is one ~ I know they had candidates ~ but nobody is the "boss".
"They want "their way" or the highway. So does everyone else." Very good point ~ actually finding it hard to counter your intent ~ BUT ~ alas ~ here it is ~ "their way" means uncompromising their fiscal conservative advocacy ~ seems to me whoever agrees with them can vote for them and whoever doesn't can vote for someone else. That's called democracy. Isn't it great ~ that we live in a country where it's ok to disagree and have a different political view?
In our local politics ~ every election ~ every party has an opportunity to endorse candidates. All of parties could have endorsed these four guys ~ but they chose not to. That's ok ~ as free agents they are FREE to continue to advocate for their beliefs ~ either together or individually.
"The shameful part is that they lead people to believe they are something they are not." We all knew what they were when we voted for them ~ four guys who agreed on a fiscally conservative ideology. Nothing more ~ nothing less. Surprising everyone ~ was the fact that 20% of the town also agree on the same fiscally conservative ideology.
This is a perfect example of 'politics as usual' in schenectady county. The dems are all in bed with the 'selected few' while they continually tax and spend us right out of the area.
Then ya got the obviously disgruntled reps who have not learned their lesson yet....and will continue to implode on themselves!!!
And then ya got the cons/cops! Who are really dems in disguise. Or whoever they can manipulate at the time.
TEA PARTY TIME FOLKS!!!!! We need candidates 'independent' of all party bosses. It's time to raise the bar. It is time to escape from the shackles of schenectady county politics. This way of politicking is unexceptable and has had all of us under a gray cloud for decades. VOTE THEM ALL OUT AND BRING IN THE INDEPENDENTS!!!!!

Wow ~ okay ~ I may have been misinformed. Did Buchanan end up in the hospital? REMS called to the meeting place? Did Buchanan file a complaint like Parisi?
I do have to admit ~ if this is true ~ it doesn't sit well with me.
Report looks pretty legit to me ~ thanks for posting it Gerard.
Although it has never happened to me...any time someone calls me to threaten my life, you can be damn sure I'll call the police. Factoffiction, most of us don't operate how you apparently do...sounds very "old school." You must be really cool!
Quoted from MobileTerminal: Printed 7/22/09 - something that happened nearly a year ago ... who's been sitting on this, and why?
Good catch MT.
July 2009. Wasn't that in the midst of the political campaign? Might threats of exposing this policereport be Mertz's reason for quitting the race? Or, perhaps it was when the local party chairs reportedly contacted the state Republican party to demand that he be fired?
Wreaks of Rotterdam politics which is becoming a full contact sport.
If this is a legitimate and factual document, why no charges pressed? My guess is, there are two sides to the story, or maybe a provocation by the caller. Mr. Mertz seems to be an educated civil person, unless he has a violent rap sheet proving otherwise.
This is yet another example of slash and burn politics by Parisi and gang. Par for the course. They're really gaining supporters now.
I agree with FOF. Calling the RPD was a pantywaist move. These guys are weasels, they talk tough then go run behind the law. Typical PU$$Y attorney.
