Nothing new here. Whenever there is a changing of the guard, the old go out and the new come in. Ethical?

No, but typical. Just like every election season.  Happens every election season, then they're never heard from again.

Bumble are you accusing me of being unethical because I just joined the blog?

Hey relax spidey. I was agreeing with you here. My point is that every time the political landscape changes and another party takes the majority......people's heads roll. I'm not agreeing with it nor am I excusing it. But it happens all the time. And when I said 'ethical'....I meant isn't this at the very least ethically wrong? Or is it just the way of doing political business in the political sphere?

And by the way.....welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard new posters!

If you ever purchased a business that was fighting chapter 11 you would know to go in and clean house.  That IS what excutives do--in business, on college campuses, even in non-profits.  TH needs to have their house cleaned out and some of the old employees, loyal to ST, need to check out.  This was a mistake that Paolino made when he took office.

ST removed good and decent people.  They were fired or had their jobs eliminated once the majority changed.  People who were more than cautious with their budget lines.  AllST did was take the money from those decent employees and use it to bank roll is new law firm.  Most of those eliminations were PERSONAL.

Clearly none of you know how business is run.  I hope FDG keeps cleaning up.

I just hope it trimmed the budget, and didn't put square pegs in the round holes........I could care less who works there,,,I dont aspire to....but, their
job is their job and they are not more equal than any other resident in town just because they work there,,,,,after all this IS a small fishbowl.....now--
TRIM THE BUDGET BOYS AND GIRLS........

Did you just try to BS everybody reading this board that these job eliminations were "business"?  Were these departments operating over budget during the Tommasone Administration? Were these departments being grossly mismanage to the point FDG had to bring in his brain trusts?  Just another example why Rotterdam is a toilet.  I'm starting to think that these political patronage leeches actually believe their own bullshit rhetoric.  They're all morons placed in these positions out of favor, regardless of competency.  Both these idiot parties do it when they're in power.

No I didn't mean to intimate that this was business.  Sorry.  I was responding to the comment on another page about executives going in and firing folks.  In fact executives do just that.  I did not make the comparisonsomeone else did.

Tommasone's administration was outrageous.  HE hurt a lot of good people who were already in place, doing their jobs and managing their budgets quite well.  I am not sure who got what position in the town.  I do not know their backgound.  I understand rewarding folks but it shouldn't be done to the detriment of the town.  Look at Surprise.  Now that's a moron--and a nasty one at that.  Again Rotterdam continues to be the laughing stock.  Hope I made my point more clear this time Cic.

Fighting Chapter 11!? Really? I was under the impression that there is a multi-million dollar surplus, is this not true? I have worked for a small business that was sold and, shockingly, we all kept our jobs--at least until enough time went by to demonstrate (based on PERFORMANCE!!!) whether we should keep our jobs or not. No successful executive fires staff on day 1 without knowing which employees were doing a good job.

In the days leading up to being sworn in, Bob Godlewski was upset because he said the new board wasn't aware of any of the details of major issues facing the town, like REMS. Apparently Bob knows nothing about broad issues that most citizens are at least vaguely aware of, yet knows about the inner-workings of town hall and was able to make determinations about firing people on day 1.

These firings might be normal in the political arena, but the incoming board promised to run the town like a BUSINESS and to eliminate politics as usual!!!! Defending these arbitrary and capricious firings as politics as usual is ignoring the higher standard the incoming board set for itself. Remember, DelGallo said at the Jan. 1 meeting that if they don't live up to their campaign promises that we should chop their heads off. We should hold them to those promises!!!!

Look Spidey--I don't know what your experience is but here is mine.  I bought an ailing Capital District business 25 years ago.  It was going Chapter 11.  I kept the employees--all 68 of them.  My mistake--as part of the deal I kept the former owner on.  He owned the business more than 50 years.  After three months it was very clear that I needed to clean out not only the former owner, but the heads of the d epartments that were really loyal to him.  Yeah I saved their jobs-they were screwing me.  One department I let go all five employees and started out fresh.  Did I do it on day one NO--too bad I didn't have the brains and the -alls to do it then.

Look on college campuses--same move.  New president brings in new VP's in the development arena as well as often a new provost.  An area private school just got rid of their hatchett man making way for a new lasting headmaster.  Getting rid of a few town people who SHOULD go with ST is part of that game.  Don't say this shouldn't be a game--because it's politics--you knew what it was when you got into it.

FDG has ony begun in my estimation.  If he is smart there are other folks who need to go--Rep or Dem.  With Regard to the former Super--well he let go some excellent talent as soon as he had the majority.  People who had taken Civil Service tests for their jobs with excellent background and experience.  Steverino was known for his underhanded, vindictive and heartless actions in the Town.  Plus he doesn't have any GOOD people skills. A country bumpkin at best.  "Off with their heads" says FDG--yeah people should have started that with the old administration.

You can lay off all the secretaries you like. That won't change the inherent structural issue of budget growth. To cut expense, a business man needs to find where most of the expense is. Turning off the lights and lowing the stat' won't solve it. Dumping a handful of clerks and such makes for slower service and little savings. Who gets the salaries, the benies', uses the gas, insurance, etc? That has to be determined. However my tax bill showed a county tax more than twice as high as my town and highway, and I am still trying to figure out what my household gets for the misnamed "State and Federal Mandate Fee" which IS the county tax bill. When will there be a tea party about that gang? ...curiously I suspect never.

As far as I'm concerned calling the county tax state and federal mandates is deceiving the tax payer of where their money is going and being spent. We all know that Schenectady is paying more in welfare benefits than anywhere in the state and thus we keep getting more and more people seeking welfare benefits moving into this county putting a strain on the counties finances. NYC tried this strategy back in the 70's and it almost bankrupted the city.

You are kidding right??? Like there aren't people who had taken civil service tests for their jobs with excellent background and experience that just were let go from the fdg administration. Like these folks won't be viewing fdg in the same light as the liberals do about ST?

They are ALL the same. FDG and crew ran on and promised and campaigned on 'reform'. How they were going to make it 'better'. They were going to do things differently. WHAT A JOKE!

They all do the 'pay to play' political game! They all reward their supporters and party buddies with patronage positions! Again.....WHAT A JOKE!!

And that is why we need the NNTP!!! THEY are real change! The dems/reps/cons are the same old rotterdam 'politics as usual'! IMHO
