... what is the return on our investment for all of the taxpayer dollars that have gone into these 'shows'?

"return" to who?

A friend of mine saw WICKED on Broadway in NYC. She said that if anyone is given the chance to see it, they should. She is not one for Broadway shows, but she said that this one was an exception.

Unfortunately, I was too late on trying to get tickets.

Too late?   We bought a pair of tickets just yesterday for my inlaws for Christmas, I think it was for the 27th. Two seats together upstairs

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

They didn't have 4 seats together on the night I needed.

I was considering taking the family to see the show.  But, the available tickets are $70 plus tax each.  I'm not in
a position to drop $300 for a few hours of entertainment.

They both consistently rank in the top 2 of Browadway{sic} shows.

Neither Wicked or Spamalot is currently on Broadway-so neither is a "top" Broadway show. Sinatra? C'mon-he sold out the TUC {than called the Pepsi} when it opened. Your point about mismanagement at Proctor's is on target. But don't tell the Gazetto.

Since the County taxpayers made this happen they should now be repaid with all the hyped up "success". Increase the PILOT, or make a direct repayment to the County General Fund. Tis the season and the oppressed County sheeple could use a break today.

THEATER REVIEW
Cast is ‘Wicked’ good in trite musical
BY MATTHEW G. MOROSS
For The Daily Gazette

SCHENECTADY — Playing Proctors for the holiday season, “Wicked,” the Tony Award-winning musical prequel to “The Wizard of

Oz”, tries to address standards of beauty, morality and opposition to oppression all with a smile, a sneer and a wave of the wand.
Unfortunately, what we are offered is an uneven, mechanical musical evening that is overlong and devoid of true theatrical magic.
The musical is loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s best-selling novel, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and libretto by Winnie Holzman. Maguire’s tortured tale of the green-skinned Witch of the West, Elphaba, from her friendship with “good witch” Glinda to the tragic losses that drove her to become “wicked,” had a dark, modern feel. Scary, funny and ultimately touching, the novel has become a modern classic.
But Schwartz and Holtzman seem determined to whitewash and tone down the ugly to attract the widest possible demographic. Gone is the dark, brooding, ugly adult tale of betrayal and difficult choices. Instead, we get a cleaned-up, less-threatening, nicer Oz, with perky tunes and a happy ending. The basic story of Elphaba and her crusade against the increasingly fascist rule of the Wizard has been retained, but the lack of a clear vision or a firm artistic hand turns the show, unlike the book, into a muddled mess. ........................>>>>..............>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01501&AppName=1
