What about Spamalot last year?  They always have a "hit" show...at least once per year.

"Heavy traffic" of people fleeing Downtown?

Wicked is a hit and much bigger than Spamalot. Whether anyone dares to cross State or Lord forbid Erie remains to be seen.

They both consistently rank in the top 2 of Browadway shows.  I don't mind calling a spade a spade, especially when it comes to wasting tax dollars.  But Proctor's CONSISTENTLY draws big shows, talented musicians and great comedians.

As is represented by their "sellout" attendance figures? Comon, I'm all for giving credit when something goes right, but even Morris has complained that attendance isn't what it should have been.

A friend of mine saw WICKED on Broadway in NYC. She said that if anyone is given the chance to see it, they should. She is not one for Broadway shows, but she said that this one was an exception.

Unfortunately, I was too late on trying to get tickets.

Good one TBV! We needed a big laugh! Spamalot is in the top 2 shows? That's why it closed?-it's not even on Broadway anymore. Get some current info. The Color Purple and 28 Steps both failed miserable. As has Downtown reliance on arts only "plan".

What great comedian? Jackie Mason was there 10 years ago. How about Proctor's repaying the County taxpayers the $10 MILLION they put in. Not even a mention. While Morris picks up another award from the Chamber. Let's call a spade a spade-Wicked is a hit and its about time.

If Proctors is doing so good with their shows then we as taxpayers shouldn't have to shell out any money to subsidize them.

And, now, because of taking over the Schenectady Public Access TV station SACC-16, Proctors is guaranteed a revenue stream of public revenues from Schenectady County government.

Someone from the media needs to interview those standing in the ever growing lines as DSS how the taxation and spending by the Schenectady Metroplex has resulted in them finding and securing good paying jobs.  Would also be interesting to know how many have attended an event at Proctors recently.

How are the tax-and-spend policies of Schenectady County government working out for you?  How many For Sale signs and vacant properties are there in your neighborhood?   And, yet, it continues.

Great idea put two taxpayer money pits together? Only in Schenectady County.

Since TBV insists that Proctor's has CONSECUTIVE hits {LOL} let me propose this. A repayment plan of $1 MILLION per year for 12 CONSECUTIVE years to repay the oppressed County sheeple taxpayers. That should hardly be a problem with all the hits. In the meantime an award for the taxpayers from the worst Chamber in the State.

Perhaps I was unclear...Proctor's consistently puts on solid shows, comedians, musical acts, etc.  All the shows I have been to have been phenomenal.  Clearly there is mismanagement at the top, and I don't agree with their waste of taxpayer dollars.

Some consider Sinatra to be the greatest singer of all time.  If he had chosen to do his farewell concert @ Proctor's and 50 people went, does that make Sinatra a terrible entertainer? NO!  Obviously this is a stretch...I'm not defending Proctor's...simply pointing out that the types of events there is NOT the problem.  It's mismanagement!!!!

I agree with you. The facts are distorted when they get filtered through the media. The fact is that 'yes' there are some good shows at Proctors. The fact is that 'no' there are no good jobs in this county. The fact is that all of our taxpayer monies that get thrown into the proctors/metroplex money pit is in no way helping the welfare recipients waiting in line at the dss building, or the rest of us for that matter. The fact is that all of the non-profits in this county, that receive government funding aren't making a dent with their effort.

Back to proctors..........what is the return on our investment for all of the taxpayer dollars that have gone into these 'shows'? Is proctors self sustaining yet?
