SCHENECTADY
Legislation aims to cut crime
Measure approved by Council makes it harder to sell stolen goods in city

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Kathleen Moore at 395-3120 or moore@dailygazette.com.

It took almost a year, but on Monday Councilman Gary McCarthy made good on the first step of his promise to improve crime solve rates in Schenectady.
In January he unveiled a plan that would greatly assist police in tracking down burglars when they sell their stolen goods to local stores.
Under the legislation, every store that buys used goods would have to identify the seller and track the item with a detailed description.
McCarthy’s goal was to make it harder to sell stolen goods anonymously, thus hopefully slowing what has turned into a multi-year rash of burglaries.
After months of negotiations with business owners and the police, the legislation was finally presented at a public hearing. No one spoke, leading McCarthy to quip that if city residents can’t find anything to complain about, the legislation must be perfect.
It passed unanimously Monday night. .............>>>>...................>>>>...............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01503&AppName=1

Great post. Why bother talking to a bunch of stunads that make all decisions in closed conference? By the way Pat Z had to set the Council and attorneys straight on the law. Just because no one complains or your opposition voted to commit suicide don't think you are popular.

Already predicting next election year? Did people come back from the 'dead' to give you that insightful premonition?
