My husband received a call tonight while I was out. It was a poll for Rotterdam Town Supervisor. The woman on the other end, asked my husband, "If you had to vote for town supervisor today, would you vote for Steve Tommasone or Francis DelGallo?" My husband hesitated and asked, "What about McGarry?" The woman responded with a "Who?" And my husband answered, "You know, Brian McGarry. He is another candidate that is running for town supervisor." The woman seemed a little confused, but did admit that she was calling from outside the area, and didn't have that information. Then she proceeded to hang up on him.

I mention this only because I don't think it is an accurate poll if all of the candidates aren't included. And I think this way with any poll being conducted. I'm not poll educated, so I don't know if this is standard procedure.

Right Joanne.  All three should be included.  I have not received any calls either.

Puddy--right again.  I am sure it was a Rep poll because they are very nervous at this point.  ST is losing and he can thank his over-paid attorney GP and the bungling Tom Buchanan for their debacle.  Reps have no leaders and the inmates have the keys!

It does sound like a REP poll because Steverino was mentioned first. They are hoping you yell "Steve" and hang up. Of course all candidates should be included.

I got the same call benny, and they mention fdg first. So I don't think there is a deliberate pecking order. Which, by the way, I didn't answer the poll...I hung up. However, I do agree that all parties should be mentioned to make it a fair poll. Although I don't put much stock in any of them no matter what party conducts them. I don't think anyone should answer ANY polls.

I just received a Poll Call. Well sort of. They hung up when I answered. The caller ID displayed POLLING CENTER, and the phone # was, 1-253-584-4097. I called it back but here was no answer. The 253 area code comes from the Tacoma Washington area.

Even more interesting - that # doesn't have a real good reputation: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-253-584-4097

Why do they do this? What is their purpose?

AS I reported, I received a poll call on Friday.  They wanted to know who I would vote for but did not include Brian McGarry in the question.  I asked who was sponsoring the poll and the answer was the Republicans.  The number from which they called did not register only "out of  town." Poll not indicative of anything.
