BT--why blame the non-profits?? We can't even get Schenectady to implement a similar "Gun Violence Task Force" model from Albany. You're a lawyer--why not utilze your talent by going down to help some of these folks. I know several lawyers in Albany who do.

Even dividing a nation...over cooking kettles...Some want what I have but some are not willing to work for it so the guys in power can just take it from me and give it to them. And if I don't like it, then I get called names...Excuses only go so far in life. When you run out of them, someone in the government and/or human services will listen. |

‘Climate change pushes poor women to prostitution, dangerous work’
The effects of climate change have driven women in communities in coastal areas in poor countries like the Philippines into dangerous work, and sometimes even the flesh trade, a United Nations official said.
Suneeta Mukherjee, country representative of the United Nations Food Population Fund (UNFPA), said women in the Philippines are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change in the country.
“Climate change could reduce income from farming and fishing, possibly driving some women into sex work and thereby increase HIV infection," Mukherjee said during the Wednesday launch of the UNFPA annual State of World Population Report in Pasay City.
In the Philippines, small brothels usually pop up near the coastal areas where many women perform sexual services for transient seafarers. Often, these prostitutes are ferried to bigger ships by their pimps.

Is farming and fishing the ONLY industry/business there? There is this guy I know that is a DJ. He goes to the Philippines for 4 months out of the year, works 6 nights a week dj'ing and makes a grand a night. Plus they pay his air fare and room and board. I'm not saying that these girls should all go into the dj'ing business, but I would hope there would be more than the 'flesh trade' available to them. |
