I just checked into this situation which of course is better than bit--ing about it.  I have not paid attention to this parade in years but I did call the Chamber to see why the change.  You all might as well give it up because you are way too late to this party.  She said it has been called the "holiday" parade for almost  six years and held on Saturday for the past two years.  Why the change?   Well they decided back about six years that they wanted to highlight ALL the December holidays--Christmas, the minor holiday Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice and New Years.  The time change also happened because it was noted that on Friday night the lining up for the parade was done during rush hour and problematic.  The move from 7:00 to 5:00 was to enable small children to remain at the parade to the end without being cranky and cold.  (which is why I stopped taking my kids when they were small)  They appear to have been "theming" the parade of late and this year the Bicentennial theme is being utilized.  (hard to gripe over that since it only comes every two hundred years.)  You guys should have been griping about this about five years ago.  It seems to be a dead issue now.  I do not agree with any of it.  Should have stayed the Christmas parade on Black Friday but that's out.

Bicentennial theme? WTF again. They are completely out of ideas.

These Chamber leaders are nuts. Another example of diversity gone haywire. They can't even open Gillette House after paying the taxpayers $1 for it. The quicker the Chamber is booted out of this Christmas parade the better. Let the Jay St Merchants run it --let Salvation Army run it--let CBS-6 run it--anybody else.

Merchants?????--are there any left downtown besides the Open Book?

Vadeur--Well even if they changed the name of the parade to the "Macy's Thanksgiving Parade" that makes more sense since that's the day it's on.

How many weeks away....and no word about the CHRISTMAS parade. I am still surprised that the gazette has no advertised it since, I think, they are the ones that sponsor it.

Nobody wants to hear about the parade yet.  We haven't even been trick or treating yet.  Advertise it too early and it becomes over-exposed and nobody goes.  Of course nobody goes anyway.

Ya, WGNA uses that strategy for Country Fest - they never talk about it till a couple weeks before.  /tic

Nobody wants to hear about it? Glad I'm not a merchant downtown ... or planning a trip from out of town to bring my family.

Relax and take a chill pill..k?

In past years, cal, the parade was advertised in the gazette by now.  The parade is 'suppose' to be in THREE WEEKS! I don't think that is being 'over-exposed'.

THREE WEEKS???????  YIKES!!!!!!!!!   They better get going.  (are you sure about the three weeks?)

MT--who would bring their kids from out of town for this parade.  Unless they live in the South and are unfamiliar with life in the big city of Schenectady.

Saturday, November 21 at 5 PM ... Today is October 30 - so yes, three weeks.

The Gazette and Chamber are the ones that usually advertise people coming in from out of town to see it - and that this date was more beneficial to them ... so you'd need to ask your question of them, not me.

Cal, I don't know why I respond to your posts. I must be catching that 'mental disorder'. But you are clearly clueless! You are just a 'rumor machine' who shoots from the hip with utter nonsense!
