New license plate requirement a waste

Re Sept. 1 article, "DMV fees increasing today": Can any of our New York state leaders/officials explain the logic and reasoning (that is, if there is any) to require motorists to purchase new license plates for their motor vehicles to help New York state with its budget problems? What does one have to do with the other?
Isn't it ironic that there's a need for new plates, higher fees, etc., when the state has severe budget problems? No mention of inadequate plates was mentioned before the budget crisis was brought to the taxpayers' attention.
If there's a need for higher fees (to help the budget crisis), legislate that. Why mandate the manufacture and purchase of new plates?
Do all license plates have a need for replacement at this time? If some were becoming defective, why weren't they slated for replacement last year, or the year before? Hopefully, better plates can be manufactured in the future with a much greater life span. Certainly designers can create a better, longer-lasting plate.
If safety is an issue, why the extralarge fee to keep the same plate number? Is the old number going to produce a better plate?
Plates can be checked at annual car inspections, and if defective they can be slated for replacement within 60 days. How about the defective safety-inspection stickers that don't adhere properly to inside car windshields? This problem has plagued motorists for several years and it's still not remedied. Isn't it time this longstanding problem was finally remedied?
Has any thought been given to the effects of the waste produced by this illconceived legislation? There are more than 10 million vehicles registered in New York state, including thousands of publicly owned ones; will the plates be recycled or discarded in the landfills?
Please don't lecture us about the important of buying "green" products and saving energy, while you pass laws with nary a concern for their impact on the environment.

How "green" these leaders are!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The state probably is going to give us new plates with a tracking device built in so they can track us where ever we go.

We are all going to get new plates cause the state is almost BROKE! I said before...that we are getting nickeled and dimmed to death with new taxes and fees.

I recently researched business licensing fees for an LLC...holy crap!

I had neither the time nor the inclination to go through each state.  Suffice it to say, however, that we MAY be the HIGHEST!

We are! Ask some of them about the 'new' but 'not necessary', certificate to collect sales tax that the business 'have' to file. At the fee of $50 bucks a pop!

The state already has this info. It's just another way to 'money grab'. It's all nonsense! IMHO

I sure do hope that people lose faith in their government, it's about time people start taking care of themselves and to stop depending on the government for everything.

License plate requirement will drive even more away

Re Oct. 25 editorial, “Bogus license plate edict”: New York state is turning into a joke. How stupid do our elected officials think we are?
Mandating that all license plates be replaced is just another way to bleed the public dry. We are in a recession; we seniors did not get a raise in our Social Security; they have cut the STAR program; a large portion of work force is on unemployment. It makes you wonder what ivory tower Gov. Paterson and his colleagues live in. They are driving business and taxpayers out of the state.
We all need to contact our representatives and let them know if they don’t stop this sham, they will not be re-elected. The right to vote is the one of the few things they haven’t taxed yet.
