CAPITAL REGION
Some wonder if plan is enough for N.Y.

BY SARA FOSS Gazette Reporter

In his speech before Congress last week, President Barack Obama sought to clarify his health reform goals and reassure a worried nation that he was acting in its best interests.
But locally, Obama’s speech left people wondering: What will reform mean for New York?
Even as Congress and the Obama administration work to enact sweeping health reform legislation by the end of the year, the state remains focused on its goal of ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to health care.
“No matter what plan gets implemented, there will implications for New York,” said Courtney Burke, director of the New York State Health Policy Research at the Rockefeller Institute in Albany. “Whatever New York does will be largely shaped at the federal level. If that’s not enough, New York may still act on its own.”
One of the most significant new pieces of information in Obama’s speech was his support for an “individual mandate,” something he has previously opposed. An individual mandate would require almost all Americans to buy health insurance, or pay a hefty fine, and there would be government subsidies to help the poor and moderate-income people pay premiums. “That’s a significant shift,” Burke said. “That could affect millions of people.”
But Burke wondered what an individual mandate would mean for New York, where health insurance is more expensive than average, the cost of living is higher and there’s a large population of poor people. “The federal government..........................>>>>....................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....1&Continuation=1

We can all blame our wonderful legislatures in the NYS Senate and Assembly for creating the high insurance rate in NY by restricting the number of insurance companies who provide insurance in the state and all the mandates that they put on insurance companies.

The large population of poor people are due to A)we have the best payout for welfare in the country. OR B) everyone is getting poorer because of high taxes and attached and increased fees on EVERYTHING!!

there are only a few reasons to mandate $$ into the system:

1. They know something coming down the pike ie:infectious disease, increase cancer etc etc
2. The money would be pipelined just like the Alaskan pipeline was
3. The ignorance about the difference between healthcare and health insurance

remember HIPPA didn't 'just happen' for our safety/good of society....and this has nothing to do with Obama.....pay attention
the scapegoats will abound and nothing will 'stick' to either party.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
