Objections kill appointment
Town Democrats lobby against board naming deputy registrar

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Town Clerk Eunice Esposito got her way.
Members of the Town Board abandoned an effort to appoint a deputy registrar of vital statistics this week, less than a month after considering Esposito’s assistant for the job against the longtime clerk’s wishes. Supervisor Steve Tommasone had proposed giving the position with a $1,750 stipend to Cindy Dumar —a full-time typist the all-Republican board hired to the office in May —in case the 82-year-old clerk was unavailable to perform her duties as registrar.
But the effort was met with stern opposition from Esposito, a Democrat, and other prominent members of her party. Last month, Esposito issued a memo to the board, demanding that it refrain from adding “yet another patronage position” to Rotterdam’s budget.
Her calls were echoed by a number of ranking party officials and a county legislator who attended Wednesday’s board meeting to support their fellow Democrat. A board appointment would be sidestepping Esposito’s authority to appoint her own deputies, said Ron Severson, who ran for the board as a Democrat in 2006.
“You are usurping her ability to appoint deputies in her office,” he said.
Legislator Tony Jasenski said the effort to appoint Esposito’s deputy was an insult to the longest-tenured elected official in Schenectady County. He said going beyond her wishes was a morally wrong, regardless of whether the move was legally rooted. ...............>>>>...................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01202&AppName=1

This caption should have read "NO DEPUTY REGISTRAR FOR THE TOWN OF ROTTERDAM".  Again, the Town loses out.

Ya, the town loses out by not having to pay a crony to do a duplicate job.

Eunice is doing a great job, and a majority of the residents like her, that's why she gets re-elected every time by an overwhelming majority.

Crony?  Hmm.... You must know her new assistant personally then...
However, it was okay for Eunice to pay for her former assistant Sue Madia
$2000.00 per year, if you read the entire article.  Plus she made her last
assistant Laura from part time to full time which doubled her salary.
I think you have called the wrong person a crony my friend.

Hey....what about cross training at the town hall? Ya know...like we do in the private sector. We should be paying for a Town CLERK only! No part timer and no deputy. CROSS TRAIN!!!

Let me just say WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have learned the 'clerk' does do important ON TIME kinds of things.....and if he/she drags their feet because they
dont agree with party in charge,,,,damage is done......it behoves him/her to be quick and not worry about
the party in charge.....other wise they do look like idiots......JMHO
