Probation in betting case
Two Rotterdam men are sentenced for promotion of gambling charges

By PAUL NELSON, Staff writer
First published in print: Saturday, July 18, 2009

SCHENECTADY -- Two Rotterdam men whose sports-betting operation took in more than $250,000 over the course of two months last year were sentenced Friday morning to probation and ordered to forfeit some ill-gotten proceeds.

Gary DiCocco and Ronald Siegel were sentenced separately by Schenectady County Judge Karen Drago. The pair pleaded guilty to first-degree promoting gambling, a felony, in exchange for up to five years of probation. As part of the negotiated plea, DiCocco, 51, who was in charge of the operation, must forfeit a 2008 Chevy Silverado truck and $30,000 in cash, a third of which he pledged to pay off Friday. He used the truck to make payments and collect winnings.

His permit to carry a concealed weapon was revoked. He told Drago under oath he had sold the 9 mm weapon before his arrest.

With his attorney Ronald DeAngelus by his side, DiCocco declined to speak during the court proceeding. DeAngelus said his client is not a relative of reputed racketeer Paul "Legs" DiCocco of Schenectady, who was the target of a multiyear investigation by the state Organized Crime Task Force. He died in 1989.

Siegel's lawyer, Steven X. Kouray, told the judge his client, who is on a fixed income, was an "employee" who earned $200 a week from the illicit activity.

Siegel, 63, must forfeit $3,781. He also remained silent when given the opportunity to speak during his sentencing.

Siegel accepted 152 bets totaling more than $41,480 using a phone at his home on Outer Drive while DiCocco, who lives on Iroquois Street in Rotterdam Junction, accepted 79 bets of more than $26,770 using a cellphone, according to prosecutors and court papers............>>>>.............>>>>............http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=820976&category=YTROTTERDAM

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING RIGHT? It's not even worth exlaining the ridiculousness of that statement.

The gambling in school is immense.....football/poker/test scores....you name it.....and to back it ALL up is--------

NYS LOTTO IS NOW 10MILLION DOLLARS......backed public edumacation......

the ONLY FOLKS that want it illegal, as the boys were arrested for.....are who??? certainly not the state/feds for our wellbeing.....

who is Mr.Raucci's handler???????

although gambling bores me to tears,,,,I find this to be THE MOST HYPOCRITICAL GOVERNMENT........

Like no one knew Mr.Madoff and his 'gamble'-------I say BULLSHIT........

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
