MERTZ & O’CONNOR:  WE VOW TO RUN CLEAN CAMPAIGNS
Challenge opponents to stay away from dirty politics

Rotterdam Town Councilman John Mertz and Council candidate Mike O’Connor jointly announced they pledge to run a clean campaign based on the issues and to steer clear of negative campaigning.

“All too often candidates for office engage in dirty politics full of mud slinging and blatant distortion of their opponent’s record,” explained Mertz.  “Today I am vowing to take no part in this type of deception.   People are sick of it.  I’m proud of my record of fiscal restraint, and that record will be the backbone of my campaign.  It’s quite simple:  In my next term as councilman, I pledge to vote against any proposal that increases taxes on hardworking Rotterdam residents.”

Mike O’Connor, who is running alongside Councilman Mertz, went on to further explain that engaging in a negative campaign shows weakness and a lack of a platform on which to run a campaign.

“When a candidate for office resorts to dirty smear campaigns, it shows a lack of confidence in their campaign platform.  It is a diversionary tactic that Rotterdam residents are too smart to fall for.  Like Councilman Mertz, I will run a positive campaign based on the issue that is important to the hardworking families of Rotterdam, and that’s the issue of much-needed fiscal restraint.  I am eager to pound the pavement, meet voters and share with them my vision for Rotterdam’s future,” explained Mike O’Connor.

Councilman Mertz challenged his opponents to run positive campaigns.

“At the end of the day, we are all running for office because we want to make Rotterdam a better place to live.  I challenge all candidates for local office to not lose sight of that.  Let’s keep the mud on the ground and rise above dirty politics.  The residents of Rotterdam deserve that from their elected officials.”

HA!  Yea right!  This is going to be a Republican bloodbath.  Who is Mertz kidding here?  He's got the goods on his former buddies and there is no way that he'll hold back, it's all good rhetoric, but I can't imagine him running a campaign that doesn't piss someone off.

You can take a tiger out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the tiger.

Come on John, don’t let us down.  We’re not really expecting you to win anyways, just make sure your former pals don’t win either!

It’s still time for a change.

First, I'm not Mr. Mertz, but I'll post my mind anyway!

They both merit recognition on their efforts regarding Walmart and Masullo Ests.

Great team!

Walmart and Masullo.  What are we talkin maybe 200-250 people???  Hogwash.  The road to ruin starts the day Mertz and OConnor kickoff their covert campaign.  Mr Buchanan has it right, John Boy and Mikey are scorned by the party and will go to extremes to scorch the earth!  Lets get it on!

First Puddy says Mertz has trouble getting signatures and then Mertz hands in many more than the old guard. Now Puddy says Mertz is scorned by the party? 0 for 2. Stop talking to Sal as your only REP source.

They also created a NO NEW TAX PARTY. We know that Mertz, McGarry, Littlefield and Michael will all be on the ballot in November-the others?

I would love to see a landslide vote in favor of the "No New Tax Party" and to see the end of the 2 party system that's broke where both parties are the same no matter who wins.

Er um Excuse me Ben  Did Mortz and the Oakie get the endorsement of either the Rep or Cons party???  Nada.  Scorned by both parties.  Scorned by Tom and Gerry.  Maybe they ate Tweety.  Mortz was DUMPED by his own party.  Yikes that hurts.

It's deliverance to get 'dumped' by 'your own party'......see that's how inbreeding happens....when folks are beholden to
a party......

neither the Dems nor the Reps have a hold of the ladder to Babylon.....their foundations are crumbling

move over and move on.........

ehhhem....... I believe they were "dumped" by party leadership.  We will find out if they were dumped by the party when they force a primary.  From what I understand they are doing fairly well when it comes to getting petitions signed.

So far their message rings with more clarity than what either the Rep or Con leadership is communicating.

Oh yeah,,,,,,,,,what is their message again??????  Ohhhhhhh,,,,, I remember,,, destroy the character of those who threaten the sacred party leadership.
