Theater league gives Proctors national award
Sunday, July 19, 2009

Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY — Proctors can now boast national acclaim as the Outstanding Historic Theatre in America for 2009.
The award was presented to Proctors CEO Philip Morris Saturday night in Cleveland as part of a ceremony held by the League of Historic American Theatres.
“In selecting Proctors for this award, our award jury of historic theater experts has acknowledged a theater of exemplary vision and dedication to its community,” said Fran Holden, executive director of the league.
The award follows a $30 million renovation and expansion project that started in 2003 fueled by community support. That project followed decades of effort to first save, then gradually improve, the vaudeville-era showcase.
Morris said receiving the award recognizes the work of Schenectady’s community and puts the theater on the national scene.
“I was tripped up. It was pretty cool that it happened,” Morris said. “We were recognized for all that we do.”
The award itself is 18 inches high and weighs nearly 20 pounds and will be showcased inside Proctors somewhere yet to be determined.
“It’s heavy,” Morris said.
More than $10 million for the Proctors renovation project came as direct funding from the Metroplex Development Authority, according to Metroplex Chairman Ray Gillen.
Gillen said Proctors is a frequently celebrated success that is one of the first stops when it comes time to show off Schenectady to investors and companies.
“It’s been a catalyst for a lot of additional development downtown and throughout the county,” Gillen said. “It allows us to expose the positive changes within Schenectady to a wide audience.”..........>>>>.....................>>>>...........................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/jul/19/0719_proctors/

I have a novel idea, how about Proctors becoming totally self sustaining and pay for all their expenses from their profits[lol] and stop sucking the life out of the taxpayers every year.

This award, and a $1.07 will buy a cheeseburger off the dollar menu. However the award should be given to the unsung Schenectady taxpayers who have consistently footed the bill over the decades, yet get not even a PEEP in the little booklet they print. But don't worry, all the politicians get kudos for the taxpayers' money they bulldozed to them over the years. Yeah, go ahead now and crucify me now, I don't give a damn- I am reality.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

"It's heavy?" The burden on the oppressed sheeple County taxpayers? He ain't heavy-he works for Proctor's.

The overemphasis on the arts is the typical move from clueless planners. When you can't lease to retail bring in "arts groups"/nonprofits that don't bring in one red cent in tax revenue.

Funniest is 440 Arts Center where the artists stopped selling art because no one would buy any. One thing has worked Downtown. The green market. Because Death Ray, Son of Sam and the horrible DSIC KRATS were all kept out of it. Keep it that way.

What's in that idiotic playbill? Congrats to every Krat politico, led by SS Savage and Judy DAG.

And more crap about Metrograft non-existent job creation. Hey Death Ray-add one new job that your policies have created-the new hot dog job outside the insanely situated County DSS on Broadway!
