New owner, name for Ritz restaurant

Don Williams finished his more than a half-century career as a restaurateur at the end of May when he closed Brandon's Ritz Terrace, his base of operations the last 19 years.

The Van Vranken Avenue restaurant is expected to reopen in late July. New owner George Paschalis is renaming the place Georgio's Ritz Terrace.

Pschalis, a newcomer to the Capital Region restaurant circle, in the past owned dining spots in Manhattan and south Florida. He moved upstate with plans of retirement, but got bored with inactivity and decided to get back to work.

Dottie Gallo, owner of the Sweet Tooth on upper Union Street from 1984-98, has been helping Paschalis set up the new business. They are neighbors in the town of Esperance.

She said the restaurant would be spruced up a bit during coming weeks, and the new owner will continue the Brandon's menu plus some twists of his own. Paschalis is in the process of trying to rehire former Brandon's workers including crack chef Duane Chevalier.
