OK, the information's out, pain killers cause 100 people to die annually, in a country of 300 million. We have the information; now make the choice whether you want to take the risk. I don't need the government to regulate my choices.
The forum members aren't ignorant, just the opposite. They know the risk. It's the idiot like Sombody who need government to tell them if it's safe to wipe their own a**.
Come on now Somebody....there isn't 'anything' that does not have adverse side effects. But FIRST, the consumer must know how to read..... then to follow direction and read the side effects. And SECOND, the consumer must know how to understand, remember and follow the dosing directions from their doctor. And LAST, I would like to know the stats on exactly how many of these deaths were 'intentional'. For the ones that are intentional, they will just find other means to do themselves in. Such as taking antidepressants that actually 'cause' suicidal side effects. Yet stupid people still take em' and the FDA lets em'. Now THAT is just plain ignorant dontcha think?
But yup....let's take tylenol off the shelves....hurray!

The worst are usually the willfully ignorant - I wasn't referring to just acetaminophen-- The otc drugs such as Motrin- Advil and Aleve are Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) which cause or are associated with between 10 and 20 thousand deaths a year- not a big number but easy to document-

I guess nobody has heard about these yet ?
No, I haven't. Like I said, can you show me proof of that?
Like I said.....READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AS PRESCRIBED!!

Like MT posted....how many deaths occur yearly from alcohol compared to NSAID drugs? I'd guess MORE! MUCH MORE! And the government is doing what about that? They put an age limit on it and give ya a breathalyzer! Big whoop! And alcohol kills INNOCENT people!! And how many liver transplants???

Aspirin is used to inhibit the clotting of blood and prevent strokes and heart attacks in individuals at high risk. Why are they attacking Tylenol yet promoting aspirin as "beneficial"?

(2003): "In 2003, a total of 20,687 persons died of alcohol-induced causes in the United States (Tables 23 and 24). The category 'alcohol-induced causes' includes not only deaths from dependent and nondependent use of alcohol, but also accidental poisoning by alcohol. It excludes unintentional injuries, homicides, and other causes indirectly related to alcohol use as well as deaths due to fetal alcohol syndrome." Now, quoting the original article:

The majority of deaths were caused by either single-ingredient drugs or prescription strength combination drugs like Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Corp.’s Percocet, which combines oxycodone and acetaminophen.
So? I left death by Stupidity, death by walking the streets of Schenectady too .... what's your point?
Try and look at new information without putting a political spin on it - you may find someone you know is managing some kind of pain with these otc meds- keep an eye out for stomach problems-
Motrin/advil/ibuprofen in high doses taken regularly will 'thin the blood' or increase the time it takes for the blood to clot..... ie: if you are in an accident car/knife cut etc you will bleed longer before your blood clots..... most folks take more than what they need I blame the medical profession(I am in it) for over advertising the 'miracles' of drugs.....these drugs are over the counter to give folks a 'sense of control' over their choices.....and allow them to go to work without listening to their body's natural defenses the fact remains that medicine is NOT an exact science and the 200year old man is not on the horizon YET....but,,, mr. nano-bot is......
