ROTTERDAM
Rotterdam Democratic ticket to mix crossovers, new faces

Rotterdam’s Democratic Committee chairman said the party has endorsed candidates for town and county elections next fall.
Chairman William Cooke said the Democrats will pit Richard Leet, who ran unsuccessfully for Town Board in 2007, against incumbent Supervisor Steve Tommasone. The Democrats also nominated former board member Robert Godlewski, conservative Nicola DiLeva and political newcomer Matt Martin for three council seats that are up.
For county Legislature, the committee endorsed former Town Board member Holly Vellano and incumbent Judy Dagostino. They are also backing Dominic Dagostino for county sheriff.
“We’ve got a little bit of everything,” Cooke said. “I think it’s the best slate we’ve had in number of years.”
DiLeva, like Vellano, was a Republican when she was a member of the county Legislature during the late 1990s. Both are now enrolled in the Conservative Party, Cooke said.
Cooke also cited the candidacy of Martin, a 23-year-old engineer at General Electric Co. He said the life-long Rotterdam resident only recently became a committee member and is one of the youngest candidates ever to receive an endorsement.
Receiver of Taxes Dawn Pasquariello and 10-term Town Clerk Eunice Esposito also received endorsements. Cooke said the committee hasn’t decided on a candidate to challenge Republican Highway Superintendent James Longo.
“We’re very pumped up,” Cooke said of ..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01404

Hm, I wonder what the chairman thinks of his widely popular candidates jumping ship? He continues to run his party into extinction.

I agree with you pg13.  He has to go before the party has no chance of recovering from the damage done under his "leadership"

Is Mertz or O'conner planning a primary for supervisor?

And split ticket or not...the leadership for the rep party has got to change. Now! Buchannan should just resign.

No seriously.....you posted that oconner and mertz would primary...split the ticket...leet wins. I hardly think that oconner or mertz would primary for the super's position. Stranger things have happened, but I can't see it.
And even tho I am clearly not a fan of ANY party's candidates, I don't think it is in the best interest of the residents to have their government run by a one party rule. ANY PARTY!

Hey, is this the Ms. DiLeva (dem) who was a legislature in 06 as a rep, and is presently the principle of Mt. Pleasant middleschool? If in fact it is, when did she switch parties?
