I've said it before and I'll say it again.....how many years has it been since golub bought up all of those homes? Everyone knew what they were planning. Now the residents are 'shocked'?
I don't care if the dems or reps are sitting in town hall. Here's the choice they will be faced with......let golubs build which would add to the tax base and keep them here....OR.....tell them 'no' and let them move out lock, stock and barrel and lose the tax base.

Our taxpayers will see NO benefit from this project...same as the Long Pond Apartments on Campbell Road.

I agree with you in part about the residents living there long before this proposed expansion. And yes the main office complex is moving out, only to be replaced by a larger whse facility. Good for rotterdam? The city gains an office complex and rotterdam is left with a warehouse.
However, what would you suggest any municipality do to encourage a business to stay and not move out? PILOT'S are available to supposedly encourage job growth. I really don't know the solution to this but can see both the businesses and residents view.

Part of the solution is adopting a proper Comprehensive Plan. This situation, like the Wal-Mart or McLane's or whatever else, is a SYMPTOM of the problem. Until the town adopts a proper Comp Plan, stops the persisitent tendency to spot zone, and basically figures out what they want where, these "problems" will persist.
Unfortunately, it's a little too late for that to have much impact on this decision but if the town doesn't get an updated Plan adopted soon, they will continually be faced with treating the symptoms instead of the underlying problem.

The Golub expansion is one of the largest development projects in Rotterdam and they know nothing? Let's get on board here and protect the quality of life for the residents in that neighborhood! This is a great opportunity for the Dems to prove that they are in office to advocate for the residents, not the developers and big businessmen of Rotterdam!

Probably in the short term jobs won't be created, but for Golub to compete against multi national corporations like Walmart, they need to centralize their distribution center for efficiency reasons. So in 10 years, if the Golub trend continues as it has in the 10 years prior, I'm pretty sure they will continue to build and buy new stores, creating new jobs.

As far as I know, the town collects property tax from the buildings at the Duansburg Road complex. Moving the office complex downtown doesn't reduce the number of taxable structures that exist at the distribution center. From what I understand, the old offices are going to be converted into additional warehouse space. So with the additional warehouse being built, and the offices being converted in the warehouse space, my guess would be amount of property taxes payed by the Golub Corp would increase, adding revenue to the town, county, and Schalmont School District.

The following Legal Notice is from today's Gazette. Interesting that this "public meeting" is scheduled at 3pm in the afternoon when most residents are working. This makes it rather difficult for these people to attend unless they take off time from their job. Could this be a deliberate move on the town's part? And BTW, this meeting isn't on the Town Calendar yet so if you check the Town's website for scheduled meetings on the Golub expansion, you're out of luck.

These meetings are routinely scheduled during the day. Chairs and co-chairs of the various Town Boards, PC, ZBA, RCAC, that make up the Comp Plan Advisory Committee are required to take time off from their day job, if they have one, to attend.
