Federal agency warns of radicals on right
9-page report sent to police
By Audrey Hudson (Contact) and Eli Lake (Contact) | Tuesday, April 14, 2009
The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in "rightwing extremist activity," saying the economic recession, the election of America's first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

A footnote attached to the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines "rightwing extremism in the United States" as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.

"It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," the warning says.

The White House has distanced itself from the analysis. When asked for comment on its contents, White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said, "The President is focused not on politics but rather taking the steps necessary to protect all Americans from the threat of violence and terrorism regardless of its origins. He also believes those who serve represent the best of this country, and he will continue to ensure that our veterans receive the respect and benefits they have earned."

The nine-page document was sent to police and sheriff's departments across the United States on April 7 under the headline, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment."

It says the federal government "will be working with its state and local partners over the next several months" to gather information on "rightwing extremist activity in the United States."

The joint federal-state activities will have "a particular emphasis" on the causes of "rightwing extremist radicalization."

Homeland Security spokeswoman Sara Kuban said the report is one in an ongoing series of assessments by the department to "facilitate a greater understanding of the phenomenon of violent radicalization in the U.S."

The report, which was first disclosed to the public by nationally syndicated radio host Roger Hedgecock, makes clear that the Homeland Security Department does not have "specific information that domestic rightwing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence."It warns that fringe organizations are gaining recruits, but it provides no numbers.

The report says extremist groups have used President Obama as a recruiting tool.

I don't remember anything like this being printed when the far left had protests or when the group Acorn was harassing voters and people who got a bonus from AIG.

Conservatives have always promoted government and decision making at the local levels over that at the federal level.  The use of the term "reject" is interesting.  What constitutes rejection?

There was a report that this memo also referred to supporters of third party candidates (Ron Paul, Bob Barr (Libertarian candidate for President), Chuck Baldwin (Constitution party candidate for President), and others) as belonging to this radical fringe group.

Those in charge of our federal government are leading us to a totalitarian system of one party rule.

Pretty soon they will want to outlaw the moderate republicans too.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

If anyone disagrees with the present system, they will be labeled radical. They are not leaving anyone any wiggle room who doesn't go along with the way our government is headed. And the liberal medial appears to be the protection barrier around this present administration.

this is correct over here since the right wing radicals who are in charge of Fox news and the TV stations and the radio stations and the repub party are now becoming an illegal group with the fringe views. Over there on the other side they dont tolerate this nonesense from radical right wingers and they are even outlawed since we saw what happened when these groups got ahold of germany and forced Italy to engage in th war to in the 40s. SO WE HAVE TO END IT NOW and if you all dont see the truth about what the president is doing to protect the country then maybe you to are radicals who need the jailers to keep you from bring the hurt to your family and that there. Wake up and remember that there is no where to run when you go against the government and the police so watch what you do and what you say and watch what kinds of rallys you go to and protests and that there to. Dont get involved with that and stay safe capish?

Wow....I guess Sal never read the constitution or the Declaration of Independence. This is exactly what our forefathers were afraid of. However, they probably never thought the liberal media would play such a role in politics. The liberal media has just about killed this country and it's freedoms.

Funny ... even with Fox news and conservative talk radio.....obama still won. I wonder what they are all still afraid of?

The Federal Government has become too big and too obtrusive. They created this economic crisis and have no solution other than increasing taxes and deficit spending. The 10th Amendment must be reinstated. As Brian Quail stated his Kratz candidates; "understand the importance of high taxes!"

70% of new jobs in 2008 were created in Texas, while NYS keeps going down the toilet. Rated 50th for business-below Michigan. Cut all taxes NY "leaders", go out of existence Metrograft "planners".

I wouldn't be surprised if these "memos" are, at least in part, derived from Mark Levin's smashing best seller, "Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative
Manifesto". In it, Levin addresses the breakdown of civil American society, the abandonment of our founding principles, and the "statist's" purposeful
role in America's transition to socialism and the inevitable tyranny that will result. Levin makes the case for the dire need for Conservatives to
intervene if these threats to America as we have known it are to be halted, contained and reversed. It is one of the best books I've ever read, and
would recommend it highly. It should be required reading for every parent, grandparent and high school student in America.

Nobody is making threats of war against the government, the people are protesting taxes that are too high and politicians who don't listen to the will of the people. These people are anti-politician whether they are a Dem or a Rep both parties are guilty of increasing our debt and ignoring the will of the people. There seems to be an awful lot of people at the tea parties so the politicians better listen as that's a lot of votes next election cycle.
