Since often times, important matters are discussed at Town Board meetings that don’t necessarily warrant newspaper coverage, I thought I’d create a thread that could be used.

I didn’t attend last night’s meeting but I noticed on the agenda that the new Economic Development Specialist was appointed.  Salary:  $47,500.  I opposed the creation of this position during the budget process.  My opinion fell on deaf ears.  I think this position is unnecessary and redundant.  Remember too, we had to strap on a tax increase in the adopted budget.

Also, there were various public hearings on rezoning some parcels.  I’m curious about what might have been said.  Did anyone attend last night that might be able to enlighten me?

Thw Town Board meeting agenda for tomorrow night is posted to the town website.

http://www.rotterdamny.org/calendar1/calendar/eventimages/tba_31109.pdf

It appears that Mr. Marchinkowski will be sworn in to replace the departing Mr. Silva.  He'll be tested right out of the blocks because the recent rezoning hearings have made their way on to the agenda as resolutions to be voted on.  The outcome will be interesting to observe.  I wonder if he'll be allowed to vote or will have to abstain?

Perhaps like Joey Guidarelli did when he was appointed to the town board a few years back? He is the king of 'abstain'.

Understood...but he didn't "have to"...he chose to. It was my understanding that the people that originally supported him to be there didn't like the fact that he abstained.

My question was, I suppose, if Michael was indicating that he felt Marchinkowski would be asked to abstained by those that support him (I couldn't imagine why?) or because he was not involved in prior decisions involving this specific issue?

I'm not so sure about that JS. There were many of us who were involved back then.

I simply wondered if the town lawyers will advise him to abstain because he wasn't a sitting member during the public hearing.  I have absolutely no problem with him casting a vote but I don't know if there are legal considerations or not.  I don't know Mr. Marchinkowski and have absolutely no preconception of him whatsoever.  It was an innocent musing.

I especially didn't mean to create a rekindled debate about Mr. Guidarelli's tenure and to those that seem mired in the past, I would suggest letting it go already.

Michael- The Guiderelli's live in the past always.  Bumble aka Peter or Joey are bitter over
their lack of support from the voters.  Good point on moving on though.  Disgruntled
Rotterdam Repubs have nothing left but the past.  Joey abstained himself right out of office.

Michael, there are always legal implications if one has fear in their heart......where is Braveheart when we need him? has anyone seen William Wallace
around town? I have........

just because something is not deemed illegal at the time doesn't always make it right and the reverse of this is true also....

if p then q.......

Interesting it was.  Mr. Marchinkowski was sworn in as our new Town Board member.  Resolution 116 saw one adversely affected resident square off against Mr. Steenburgh, who was representing the Amedore parcel rezoning request.  When it came time for the vote, Mr. Mertz cited an ethics law conflict of interest and recused himself.  Mr. Tommasone and Mr. Signore voted NO while Mr. Della Villa voted YES.  At that point, it didn't matter anyway, but Mr. Marchinkowski ABSTAINED after all...the rezoning resolution failed.  I'm sure Justin Mason will have better details in what is certain to warrant an article.

I guess you called that one Michael. (abstain) Thanks for the update. We will be anxiously awaiting the follow up in tomorrow's gazette.
