Sincere talk is exactly what’s needed with Iran

The Feb. 18 column by Mona Charen, “We just love to talk, declares Biden,” does nothing but mislead Americans about talking to Iran. Most Americans are not aware of the history of the U.S. involvement in Iran, but Iranians are. Without some critical knowledge of this history, it’s easy to come up with platitudes that contribute nothing to solving the problem.
During an American-led coup in 1953, the United States completely changed the course of history in Iran by ousting the duly-elected government of Iran and reinstituting the shah. The United States then continued to support the shah’s repressive regime for another 26 years. Just sitting down and talking to Iranians, no matter how many times, is not the point. The point is, given the history, how can trust be restored between these two countries?
President Obama seems to be on the right track and we hope he can present the right tone to the Iranians, most of whom have a generally warm feeling toward the United States. Americans would do well to encourage sincere talks rather than engage in ominous threats.

I guess when they stop trying to kill innocent people by flying planes into buildings, blowing up ships, and embassy's then we can be nice to them.

How is this policy working these days?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
