Sorry Mr. Macejka, but the error happened on YOUR watch.  Mr. Surprise found it on HIS watch! And I really don't care WHO knew about it 'back then'. It was YOUR responsibility as the long time ASSESSOR to bring it to the forefront for the residents to know.

Funny how everyone wants to blame Tommasone NOW! If Macejka knew about this 'back then', when Tommasone was still the supervisor, why not expose it then? AND Ms. Marco was also on the board at that time, I believe. What was her part in this? Did she know? And if she did, why didn't she speak up as she did with sooooo many other issues?

Sorry folks, but it just appears to me that the dems are digging into their 'war chest' of things they knew, that have effected the taxpayers negatively, and are using them for ammo ONLY NOW as we approach election time.

As far as 'no change' , I agree with GB. When the dems start digging into their war chest, then you know they are desperate. IMHO

Someone’s to blame for Rotterdam tax error

The people of Rotterdam are rightly outraged over the missteps that led to their property values being underestimated for the fiscal year 2007 [Jan. 19 Gazette]. The result of the underestimation is an unnecessary increase in tax bills of all property taxpayers in the town. However, what is not being disclosed to the taxpayers is who in the town made the decision to knowingly use the underestimated values.
I asked county officials at a meeting Jan. 13 and town officials at a meeting on Jan. 14 the following questions: Did the county contact the town in December 2007 and advise them of the problem with the estimated property values and the options available to correct the estimates? Was the decision made at the county, or town, level to knowingly use the underestimated values? Who made the final decision?
The response to these questions from both groups was silence. I and 13,000 other property taxpayers in Rotterdam are still waiting for their answers.

Mr.Godlewski...with due respect.....it's generational....no via party lines....this town is so up it's own butt and sleeping with the enemy that for decades
we have been hoarding this 'nice place to live'......avoiding the equalization????.......

Get it right.....years and years and years and years and generation after generation,,,,,the pilfering has been going on......the policos are not elected
out of a vaccum....yourself included......

those who control the guns and $$ control the masses..........

Mr. Robert 'no change' Godlewski....I believe that  you are making a mountain out of a mole hill here. THE BOTTOM LINEIS............What the residents are going to pay this year, would have been paid last year anyway! It is monies due...end of story. Mr. Godlewski is obviously on a witch hunt to further his political career and satisfy his political ambitions. It is what it is, Mr. No change! The residents are NOT in such a tizzy about this like you are trying to imply.

If  Bob 'no change' wants to do something worth while...let him personally go to each resident and business owner and see if they are taxed properly. Check Mallozzi's restaurant for payment of their sewer tax. Encourage the town to update their Comp Plan. Approach  your counterparts at the county level and question the 9% tax increase. We see that you were deaf and dumb when it came to that issue!!

But please stop beating a dead horse!!IMHO

You're right I only pay $6,000 a year in taxes but I'll bet my home is older and smaller than most.

Yes shadow, I pay the same and my house is probably substantially smaller too. But a question for Biag....'what more do you want for your taxes?'

The Real Property Tax Law    Quick Links
requires all properties in each municipality (except in New York City and Nassau County) to be assessed at a uniform percentage of market value each year (see RPTL Sections 301 and 305). This means that all taxable properties in each city, town and village must be assessed at market value or all at the same uniform percentage of market value each year. Each assessor signs an oath to this effect when he or she certifies that the tentative assessment roll is uniform.
State Law also requires assessors to include the estimate of market value and assessment for each property and the uniform percentage (or level of assessment) for all taxable property on the tentative assessment roll.
