Movieland will now provide 3-D movies accordng to the Gazette. The Gazette went on to say:

If Movieland had not upgraded, it would have been at a significant disadvantage because Regal Cinemas offers 3-D shows at both Colonie Center and Crossgates Mall. The Rotterdam Square mall does not have digital 3-D yet.
“There was a hole in the Schenectady market,” Masher said. “People from Schenectady would have to go to Crossgates or Colonie Center to see them in 3-D. People who come over here from Amsterdam and Clifton Park would have to go farther.”
Now they can don disposable 3-D glasses in Schenectady instead.
The digital format also allows Movieland to broadcast concerts, making it possible to compete with Crossgates for operas from the Met, popular music concerts and even the occasional Broadway show. “Rent” was broadcast earlier this year, but Movieland couldn’t show it because it didn’t have a digital theater.
Masher said he hasn’t decided which concerts will be offered at Movieland. Crossgates will show a series of operas next year, but Masher said Movieland could easily compete if it had the same shows.
“When people think of fine arts, they think of Proctors and downtown Schenectady,” he said.

The majority of the people will continue to go to Colonie Center and Crossgates. Giving people 3-D glasses are not going to make a big difference. IMHO

Some folks that I talk to do not choose Movieland because of the safety issues. A few have gone, and they say it is pretty  nice inside, but it is usually not very busy. Personally I have never gone. I am not big on going to the movies. If there is a movie that is of interest to me, I wait until it comes out on DVD and watch it in the comfort of my own home.

Movies are so outrageously priced, I haven't been to one in YEARS - and have no intention of changing now.  With Movies on Demand, DVD's and internet trailers, I don't see a reason to spend $8-15 on a movie ticket for each person. Not to mention concession prices.

3-D really does nothing for me - but hey, different strokes I guess.

Both Colonie Center and Crossgates have an IMAX theatre. That's what the people want and a safe parking lot. Movieland is a bust-they are repaying nothing to the County because they fail to hit artificially high "triggering mechanism". This is another cry for help.

People go once and will not go back. "Crowds" of 4 are not uncommon. This is another free ad by the Gazetto which refuses to tell it like it is. Parisi's Steakhouse had now been closed 3 weeks-TU has it-Gazetto don't.

because of the dedicated work that Mr. Gillian does over there Schenectady is proud to have the finest  movie theatre in the hole of the capitol district. It is no accident by the way that the demos have lead the county and re -vitalised the downtown and even brought the GE back to so before you say the demos are not doing the job remember how many thousand sof the young people really want to get back to Schenectady to live and work and play downtown and soon indeed - Bobmers Burittos is coming which should generate millions in the taxes to so we can get a cut in taxes in the county

HA-HA. The Bowtie is not the finest theatre-by a long shot. No IMAX-pathetic attendance-high prices that even the Union students are complaining about. By the way Proctor's also has 3-D, they have been showing BUGS! for years. Great Plan divide the few people that are interested in this format into two even smaller groups.

Bowtie is another complete Metrograft flop, zero repayment to the County taxpayers, City property tax give aways by Ray. Even Democratic committee people are laughing about Bowtie, Big Hose and Ray. Ray should resign in disgrace for the continual hiding of negative information (that the paper complained about-FINALLY!)and lying to the County Taxpayers.

benny, I'm confused when you say high prices.  I frequent the movies, and consider Bowtie to be comparable to Crossgates in comfort and overall enjoyment of a movie.

As far as costs, I believe it is cheaper (AND they offer $1 off student discount) and the food is also cheaper.  I've never done an item by item comparison, but I think, everything aside, it's safe to say that the theater is an excellent value.

I still do not feel safe in the area. And the idea of a movie and dinner is certainly not in downtown Schenectady. Myself, family and friends look to Colonie Center for the movies and anywhere on Wolf Road for dinner.  No comparison.

OK, so reading this article, I found the new mission statement for the Metroplex...

“There was a hole in the Schenectady market,” Masher said.

...and I would rewrite and shorten up that first paragraph...

Movieland is still at a significant disadvantage
because of it's location, in Schenectady County.

I can't even believe that movieland would even put themselves in the same catagory as Colonie and Crossgates. Not even close!
