CBS 6 received a tips call today from a viewer who says that there were five or six police cars at a home on Floral Ave in Rotterdam.

We called police, who would not confirm any information, so we sent a photographer to the scene.

Scanner chatter from Rotterdam PD and EMS, which is unconfirmed, reports that they are responding to a report of a female down with gunshot wound.

It is unknown at this time the identity or severity of wounds, but EMS and police have blocked off a large perimeter on Floral Ave in Rotterdam.

We called Rotterdam police at 3:50 p.m. and asked if the public was at risk. Police would not release any information.

Stay logged on for more information as soon as it becomes available.

Update per Channel 6 News there was a woman killed at 1017 Floral Ave and a neighbor said it was a police officers wife. There was a video posted on Channel 6 that had the information about the shooting.

I did notice there was a big state police presence there which is unusual...if the neighbor's account of it being a police officer's wife is true, perhaps that could explain the outside agency involvement?

I just came from that area and the police cars are still there and the road is blocked off.

this is a terrible thing....

Channel 6 reported it very briefly.

Probably because it involved a police officer. I'm sure they will want to get ALL of their facts straight before anything is reported.

Police probe
death reported
in Rotterdam

    ROTTERDAM —Town and state police are investigating a death reported at approximately 1:30 p.m. at 1017 Floral Ave.

    The Rotterdam Police Department issued a brief news release Saturday afternoon that stated that the investigation had been turned over to the state police and that all inquiries were to be directed to them.

    State police officials said the initial investigation had not revealed anything suspicious, but the investigation was continuing.

    Neighbors of 1017 Floral Ave., off of Curry Road near Guilderland Avenue, said a Rotterdam police officer and his wife lived in an apartment at the address.

    Some in the neighborhood told CBS 6, the Daily Gazette’s newsgathering partner, that a woman may have died inside the house and the woman was married to a Rotterdam officer who was taken in tears from the scene by Rotterdam police.

    Officials declined comment beyond the information in the releases Saturday.

I heard sadly from a neighbor that the young lady (police officer's wife) committed suicide. That is very sad. The troopers are there to investigate it because the officer is a town policeman and they need to turn it over to the State Troopers so that no one thinks there is a cover up or any of that. I imagine that all the details will be out soon. I hope this clears up the confusion.
