That is a good question, isn't it. Do you think the reason "Ang" wasn't in the paper was because of anti-Italianism?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Anti-Italianism?  That reminds me of a county leg. race wherein Suhrada was accused of using "anti-Italian rhetoric" by the Democrats...when he's Italian himself! haha

This is just plain stupid....this is smoke up our butts.......nothing to gain......let the insurance companies fight it out.....I'm sure they have something
written in their policies' small print about texting, putting on lipstick, drinking coffee, smoking etc that allows them to not pay for stupid.....

SHOW ME THE MONEY TRAIL......take away the $$ and folks will pay attention-----that's how politicians get votes they give the $$......

what is Savage getting? A few years ago she had this bill about inhaled alcohol, which was the big rage in NYC supposedly, and they passed it where it go "banned" in our county. Well shortly after she received a large donation for a thousand dollars from a company which is the largest nationwide distributor of alcoholic beverages! SHOW HER THE MONEY BABY!!!!l

Forgive my ignorance and apparent lack of memory, but what the heck was this 'inhaled alcohol' bill? And how did Susan Savage defend her accepting the $1,000 contribution?

it was a fad -- people would inhale atomized alcohol --- was supposed to give u a quick and powerful high -- worry was that young folks would like it too much and blow their minds//

Hearing set tonight on texting while driving ban in Schenectady County
Tuesday, December 9, 2008
By Michael Lamendola
Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY COUNTY — The Schenectady County Legislature will hold a public hearing at 7 this evening on a proposed local law to ban text messaging while driving.
“This is an important public safety issue,” said Susan Savage, D-Niskayuna, chairwoman of the county Legislature. “Research has shown the dangers of driver distractions, so it is important that we create legislation that...............................................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2008/dec/09/texting1209/

I thought this was a "hearing" tonight ... do they always vote at hearings?  For some reason I thought they had public hearings then scheduled a vote.

Quoted Text
Legislative Chairwoman Susan Savage said that the vote to ban texting while driving was passed 11 to 2. The ban will become effective March 1st 2009.

Don't they have a few more pressing issues right now? Like maybe local economy? Asking where the Metroplex state audit is? Moving the DSS operations? Funding the Sheriff's office to fulfill the state mandates? Complying with the state requirements that they relocate / renovate the courthouse (that was supposed to be done 2 yrs ago)? Coming into compliance with HAVA?  Fixing the problems with the county nursing home?

I agree, this is a stupid thing for people to do ... if you can't take time to pull over before you start a text message, then you shouldn't be driving. Nothing is that important - but comon people, common sense needs to prevail. Our elected officials (should) have more important things to worry about.

Another story by Lamendola...probably didn't stick around for the vote, "had to get to press," and all.

...At least it's another way for the locals to bring in some money off the backs of people...but maybe the town/city/county cops won't pull over county residents, that way they can give the same answer as the bed tax...it doesn't really affect people who live in the county...
