Homes are affordable, if all you had to pay was the principal and interest on the mortgage. It's the state, county, town, school, mortgage, sales, gas, taxes ect, that are the real killers.  As wages increase, my fixed mortgage payment will stay the same.  So there is light at the end of that tunnel.  My mortgage payments won't seem so cumbersome 10 and 15 years from now.  But on the other hand.  With property and school taxes pushing double digit increases annually,  I'm not so sure that my wages will be able grow annually as fast as our school boards and legislators raise taxes.

Those cops, firefighters, municipal union reps. who currently control the Conservative Party are invested in what is called a guaranteed retirement account.  Their retirement benefits don't fluctuate with the stock market like those invested in 401K's.  They depend on the generosity of the taxpayer to fund those retirement packages negotiated by local politicians and union leaders.  So their membership of the Conservative Party is being used as leverage to maintain those outrageous retirement benefits.(Collins 90K a year, full medical for the rest of his life.)

I know what Joann said above- but I heard that Parisi was serving subpoenas for the whole attempt at taking over the Conservative party and that the Republicans spent thousands on an attorney to file all sorts of objections, etc to help their good friend Kelly....

Joann- if you reallydont kno it by now-  ask Parisi yourself or if you realy feel ambitious- at least take the time to do a little homework on the issue.  Yea, there may be a few people who call themselves Conservatives working on "taking back the party", but in reality it is the Republican party getting in bed with Kelly and a few others in an attempt to control the conservative party.  Kelly- do you really think Tom is going to allow you to decide which candidates get endorsed???   You have a very short memory.

Allow me to spare you the time, JoAnn. I asked Gerard Parisi to serve the Election Commissioners because I could not (due to the potential of my being subpeonaed, which as it turned out, I was). I asked Gerard because he is 1.) Right next door to the Board of Elections, 2) He is an attorney who knows process service and 3.) He knows how to fill out the affidavits of service required.
Those of you who refuse to accept the fact that the reformists have done all of their own work, probably believe so because NONE of our predecessors have never had to to it themselves. The Democrats have always done it for them. After all, it was the least they could do in exchange for calling the shots, right?
These Conservatives who are conservative with no special interest connections were dedicated and WANTED to learn this process. They worked hard and took great pains to get it done, and to do it right...and they made many sacrifices for their cause. As such, I will not allow Randy Pascarella or anyone else to take that credit away from them and give it to the Republicans, or anyone else.
And this is not "just a few people calling themselves Conservatives to take back their party". This is HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of true conservatives across the county who are sick and tired of choosing between being exploited at their ballot line(duped into voting for liberal candidates who appear on the Conservative line), or being forced into primaries in order for conservative candidates to take their rightful places on our ballot line (after being wrongfully denied the Conservative Party endorsements). Anyone who believes otherwise is cluelessly delusional. I have spent a LOT of time with a LOT of Conservatives THROUGHOUT the county for a LONG time now. If my fellow Board Members and all those before them had done the same and hadn't been so busy dancing with the Democrats, they would have a clue.
And to answer your question on Buchanan "allowing" me to decide who is endorsed: Tom Buchanan will have nothing to say about our decisions as a Commitee. We do not need his permission to choose our candidates, and he will simply have to accept our decisions whether he likes them or not. We are not taking the Conservative Party away from the Democrats just to give it to the Republicans.

Bravo!

For the record, I can confirm that the signatures on the Designating Petitions in all 126 election districts in which we are running candidates were collected by enrolled Conservatives.  I have met all of them.  The largest number of the petitions were carried by Kelly.  I carried nearly a dozen.  Many others did likewise.  Unlike the petitions submitted by the current Executive Board members, none of our petitions were carried by members of another party.  Further, documents that required it were notarized by a Notary Public who is an enrolled Conservative.

If the Republicans are pleased with the actions of the traditional Conservatives, that is fine.  I am hopeful that they will field candidates with conservative beliefs on fiscal and social issues.  As Kelly stated in her post, however, we will not allow control of the party to be handed from one major party to the other.  The benefactors of the retaking of the Conservative party will be those candidates from whichever party who possess conservative positions on the important issues facing the county.  And, of course, the hard working and law abiding residents of Schenectady county.

It will be a breath of fresh air to have people running for office with real conservative values instead of just the same candidates with the same old values that we're all sick and tired of.

How about some of you running for public office?  Based on past posts to this forum, many of you appear to have conservative values.  Shadow, Bumble, Michael, MobileTerminal, JoAnn, Cicero et. al.  Care to serve?  Soon, the Conservative party will be open to all who share in the traditional Conservative ideology.

I think that some of us may just consider that offer as it may be the only way that we can get away from the tax and spend ideology that the politicians currently in office seem to follow.

How 'bout you Brad? I don't think I would choose to run for a political office, but I would definitely help out anyway I could.

They do to a certain degree and to make up the difference the county/state/feds make up the difference......the fluctuations are there only the government gets to fill in the gaps for them....and then they get the vote......

Good answer, but you seemed to leave out some crucial details.  Did Mr. Parisi, Rotterdam Republican Chair, serve the Election Commissioners pro bono? Or did those attempting to return the party to traditional values pay for the services?  I believe that's a fair question to ask.  We all know that in politics strange bed fellows are made.  Let's just hope there wasn't a quid pro quo between Kelly and Gerard for his services rendered.

So far, I don't see those who worked hard to recapture the Conservative Party in an attempt to return it to its traditional ideology, as people looking to lead the party for their personal financial gains.  I don't know Ms. Rhinesmith's occupation or if she stands to gain financially with the political influence of the Conservative Party, unlike those who currently hold party leadership positions.  From reading Mr. Littlefield's posts on this forum, I believe Mr. Littlefield works in the private sector in real estate, and is truly getting involved to better the county he lives in.  And has no personal aspirations for getting involved.

Fair enough: Gerard is a friend of mine and I asked him to do it for me. Plain and simple. There was no payment for his service, and there will never be a quid pro quo for anyone.
I am an editor/writer/designer for a professional newspaper and magazine. I have nothing to gain financially. I have in fact spent a substantial amount of money of my own, but I believe it has been money well invested. Remember: conservatives will reach into their own pockets to advance their cause; liberals will reach into YOURS.

Cicero,

I do, indeed, work two jobs in the private sector.  I work full time in the IT field for a large insurance company and part-time (to full-time) as an Associate Broker in the real estate profession.  My involvement is motivated only by my desire and interest in seeing government work for the people, not people working to pay for government.

Gazette exclusive: Tedisco staffer aided effort to overhaul Schenectady County Conservative Party
August 1, 2008
Updated 2:18 p.m.
By Michael Lamendola (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY — A staff member of Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco is directly connected to efforts to oust the current leadership of the Schenectady County Conservative Party.

Republicans have repeatedly denied they are helping the faction, heading by longtime political activist and Conservative Kelly Rhinesmith. But Laurie Ammerman's name surfaced in connection to news releases on behalf of Rhinesmith’s efforts.

Ammerman works in the Assembly Republican Office of Public Affairs and is also writing news releases for the re-election campaign of Republican Assemblyman George Amedore Jr. in the 105th Assembly District. Ammerman is also a registered Republican who lives in Rensselaer County, which is part of 106th Assembly District.

Ammerman did not return phone calls for comment.

The release announced an “unprecedented grass roots uprising by a reform slate” of registered Conservatives to field 252 challengers for 126 committee election districts in the Sept. 9 primary for the local Conservative Party. Although the news release had Rhinesmith as the contact source, its message header contained Ammerman’s name, along with that of Josh Fitzpatrick, a spokesman for both Tedisco and the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee. Tedisco heads RACC, which is a political committee that funds races across the state and provides resources to other groups.

RACC is running Amedore’s race this year against Democratic challenger Mark Blanchfield. It also ran Amedore’s race last year, when he won the seat that had belonged to a Democrat for 25 years.

Rhinesmith said today she has never heard of Ammerman and that she had nothing to do with the news release.

“I am perfectly capable of writing my own material, and I think everyone knows that,” Rhinesmith said. “Everyone needs to lose this crazy obession that Republicans are trying to take over the party.”

She suggested the news release was circulated after she released it July 10.

The news releases on Rhinesmith and Amedore were sent before or after regular work hours, although Ammerman did repond to two e-mail messages during the working day and helped a reporter to contact Rhinesmith.

Fitzpatrick said if Ammerman is involved in Rhinesmith’s efforts, she is doing so as a volunteer and not under direction from Tedisco or other Republicans. Fitzpatrick also said he did not know why his name was on the Rhinesmith news release.

“I can’t control what people do on their own time,” he said. “I only have enough time for legislative matters.”

Randy Pascarella, chairman of the county Conservative Party, said Tedisco, Gerald Parisi and Tom Buchanan are behind efforts to take control of the party. Parisi is chairman of the Rotterdam Republican Committee and a member of the executive committee of the Schenectady County Republican Committee. Buchanan is chairman of the county Republican Committee.

Parisi served notice to the Schenectady County Board of Elections on behalf of the Rhinesmith faction of a court challenge to the nomination petitions of the current leadership. Rhinesmith said she asked Parisi to serve the papers, as his office is located next to the board of elections office and because she thought she would be called as a witness in the court case.

Parisi said he delivers items to the board of elections all the time. “I don’t charge anybody for delivering things down there.”

Parisi said that is the extent of his involvement in Rhinesmith’s efforts.

“I have done nothing else but deliver those papers,” he said.

The Rhinesmith faction has also enlisted the services of attorney Tom Spargo, a Republican who is considered one of the top election law attorneys in the state. It is unclear whether he is providing his services for free.

The Rhinesmith faction has yet to establish a political committee, which would outline its expenditures. A group that spends more than $1,000 has to create the committee under state law.

Spargo is representing the faction before state Supreme Court Judge Vincent J. Reilly Jr. Reilly is expected to rule next week on the challenges to committee nominating petitions and the local Conservative Party’s endorsements of candidates for office.

Buchanan earlier said the county Republican Committee was not involved in Rhinesmith’s efforts. Rhinesmith also denied any help from Republicans, saying the faction consists of Conservatives who want to take back their party.

Many faction members are relatives of Angelo Santabarbara, a Republican Schenectady County legislator, according to officials with the Conservative Party.

Santabarbara waged an opportunity to ballot effort last year with Rhinesmith’s help to win the Conservative Party line in his race for the county Legislature. The endorsement had gone to the Democrat.

Rhinesmith has long claimed the local Conservative Party is controlled by county Democrats and by members of the city’s police union. Pascarella denied those allegations, saying Republicans are seeking control because they were upset the Conservative Party's executive committee did not endorse all their candidates in last year’s county Legislature race.

“Your average reader does not realize the Democratic Party boss is involved in the [Conservative Party’s] workings,” Fitzpatrick said, referring to Brian Quail, chairman of the Schenectady County Democratic Committee.

When the local Conservative Party was led by Paul Brown, majority Democrats created a high-paying management job in the sheriff’s department and named him to the position. The position has a top salary of $75,016. Brown had been earning $48,000 plus overtime as a sergeant with the corrections department.

Quail denied Democrats control the local Conservative Party, instead repeating Pascarella’s claims.

“I am not surprised James Tedisco and George Amedore are behind Kelly’s efforts. They are in this empire building mode, trying also to take over the Working Families Party and the Independence Party,” he said. “People just need to connect the dots.”
