Printing a "newsletter" is so 80's .... if they took 5% the cost of printing and put it into keeping their website updated, people would never be looking for information beyond a couple of clicks. Just like a newspaper, print media really is a waste of money these days. Just like those BOCES printed school district newsletters and Continuing Education booklets. Anyone searching for Adult Ed classes probably is tech savvy enough to have a computer - or at least know someone who does - or can access it via the libraries, school meetings, etc.
You must remember MT that Rotterdam is full of seniors who are not all that familiar with the computer and the town's website. Some don't even know what a 'website' is. Personally I thought it was a great idea since we can't always rely on the gazette to print things accurately. It is also more personal and beneficial for those who don't or can't attend the town board/planning commission/zoning board meetings. Clifton Park has a newsletter and it is received very well in that community. I think they should continue it in Rotterdam.
Perhaps they will do a study first to see if these newsletters will be well received.

I think you're probably not giving seniors enough credit bumble ... a LOT of them have computers with email so they can keep up with their family that's moved out of state to find work, grandkids who have myspace pages at age 5 and filing taxes online. I would bet cash money that it's only a VERY small percentage of residents that don't own or have access to a computer - hardly making it worthwhile for printing and mailing a townwide newsletter.

The point being of this thread is, the lack of follow through and inaction of this Administration. IDA reports not filed, a committee formed to address council member raises-no results, now a newsletter being discontinued after 1 mailing. Let me guess, the newsletter only gets mailed when the Town Supervisor is up for re-election. How convenient.
If I were Democrats, I would file a complaint to the board of election. Using town finances to fund a campaign.

Ok, so mail it to just the seniors - or those who register for it ... why do taxpayers need to pay for a publication of this quality, mailed to every resident?
I will admit, I'm surprised and take issue with the fact that another one hasn't come out. I wonder if they were thinking about using the idea that I gave to the town board after the last one came out. That is, make ther ebe a way that they can mail out 1 letter to the entire town, then giving people a way that they can opt out of it. In fact, I don't know how much it's needed, since we now have the Rotterdam Journal, which I must say that Ross Marvin has been doing well in his coverage of all the town issues. Not to say that Justin Mason hasn't been doing his job in the Gazette, either. It's been going rather well. You can get the Rotterdam Journal delivered free of charge as long as you're a resident of the town, just call the newspaper, that's how I get it, or they do sell it at a few stores around town, $.75 / week.
