I don't know if it is a water main problem or a backed up drainage problem. But Altamont/Curry at Capital Plaza is closed and there is water everywhere.

I was on my way to Price Chopper. Of course I didn't make it there. Maybe I'll try later. Traffic is so heavy righy now and I would expect it to get heavier during the commute home.(I took yesterday and today off..Yippeeee!)

ROTTERDAM Pipe problem halts Altamont Ave. traffic Pavement buckles, water shoots into air BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Water burst through a 10-inch main beneath Altamont Avenue Thursday afternoon, badly buckling the pavement in places and shooting small geysers through the shoulder. Road crews closed both lanes of the busy thoroughfare after the rupture, causing traffic to snarl near the Curry Road intersection. Town Highway Superintendent James Longo said the break was in a troublesome segment of pipe that hasn’t been replaced since the state Department of Transportation rebuilt and widened the road decades ago. “It’s been an ongoing problem,” he said from the scene as workers excavated the pavement. “Obviously it’s an older system.” Longo said the vibrations of traffic likely caused the break, which only disrupted water service for a couple of businesses near the break. He said pressure from the nearby District 5 water tower caused bends and sink holes to form throughout a large segment of the pavement extending halfway between Stuart Road and the Tower Street intersection. “The damage is bad, but it could have been a lot worse,” he said. Longo said a full reconstruction for the state-owned highway is in the planning stages. He said the town had intended to replace the section of aging pipe once the state’s road project is under way. Longo said the repairs to the main should be completed by this morning. He said the cost of the emergency repair will be funded through the water district. The break was the second along the stretch of Altamont Avenue in less than a year. In September, a stretch of pipe burst between the Elizabeth Street and Tower Street intersections, causing more than $125,000 worth of emergency repairs in the area. Supervisor Steve Tommasone said the latest break could end up costing even more. He said the two main breaks demonstrate the need for a full repair of the pipes. “These are long-standing problems that extend beyond my tenure in office,” he said. “We cannot continue to have this Band-Aid approach.”

Rotterdam and Schenectady are famous for "band-aid" fixes. The infastructure is crumbling beneath our feet folks - only Proctors matters. Patch the surface, the hell with what lies below, leave it for the next administration.
Right on Mobile, and as long as politics enters into the decision of what should be done for fear of losing votes it will continue to be "band-aid" fixes in the future. Unless we get some leaders elected who will do the right thing even if it isn't the popular thing our infrastructure is doomed.
This here so called widening that was done was in 1987 and they couldn't get the pipes right enough to last us all here 20 years for crying out loud! Maddone!!! What kind of bum plumbers were on that job to cob job it this bad? This makes me po'ed very much so indeed. Keep sending the money downtown for that there one block and you are right they will send them more bread for Proctors arcade and the few and the mighty down around that 2 or 3 block range and we can all go scratch the rest of us here in Rotterdam. Anyone get sick of this ever? And the neighbors of mine voting for bob GOD and Judy D all need the heads examined!! The Schidrules that they are. Then these bums send the money to Proctors a million at a time while our understructure crumbles into rubble beneath our peds.

yeah Cha drool or sch-drule, I am not sure how you spell it. It is basically a cucumber if you translate it. We like to use food names to describe such and such. Spelling Italian and saying it are 2 differnt things ya know? Capice? (kapeesh? Cahbeed Gabeed depending on the dialect!)
