There were long lines long before this recession. Anyone who drove past there could see lines of people out the door, down the sidewalks and on the street curbs. It was poor planning at best. A building not big enough for even BEFORE the recession. Not enough parking for the demand BEFORE the recession. Not to mention an unpaved, dirt, muddy parking lot at that. Unable to take a left hand turn while exiting the parking lot due to traffic. Poor, poor planning!

Didn't Mr. Packard, who heads this operation, have any input to this design? Did they not listen to him, or did he just 'go along'?

He went along like a good rubber stamp. We they should have done is look at Saratoga County. Bullet proof glass separates "clients" from workers. This whole disaster must be layed at Ms. Savage's feet. All redevelopment is pushed to Broadway for the usual reason. Both Savage and Packard should be run out of town on a rail.

BT is right it was a stuna choice. No bus cut outs, no adequate parking, no protection for workers. Another land slide for the County sheeple to pay for. The funniest is the Bellevue Neighborhood President who actually thought this would help the neighborhood! Nobody said nuthin-even the usual critics were silent. Except 2.

Hot dog, more people

That Broadway corridor linking Bellevue and Rotterdam to downtown Schenectady has forever been a safe, smooth flowing route without backed-up traffic. Not anymore.

Originally the Mica Co. followed by Schenectady International operated for many years without traffic tie-ups.

Since the old factory buildings were converted into the new headquarters for the county Department of Human Services, traffic at times now backs up the Broadway hill. Also parking is often a problem because hundreds of public assistance clients visit the facility daily.

Adjacent National Grid hung up large no-parking signs to discourage visitors from leaving vehicles on its property. A nearby business put up a hand-painted sign offering parking for five bucks.

On the upside is the stimulus factor. There has been such a large influx of people that a pushcart hot dog vendor set up shop in front of the facility.

I hear that there is mud sliding down the embankment located behind the dss building. It's ending up between the buildings!!

How many accidents have occurred at the same location? I hear there were at least 2 which involved dss workers.

adequate?

Everyone warned the DEMS about this-no one listened. Joe Suhrada tried to reason with them on many occasions. They had a "plan".

At the gas station across 890 on Broadway-someone died when a winter rain storm caused a landslide.

Who owns the buildings?  Who bears responsibility and liability if someone is hurt or killed?
What steps are being taken to protect people in the area?

The county Legislature in December approved a 20-year lease on the Broadway building with owner the Galesi Group. The lease begins in January 2009 and will cost the county approximately $16 million over its term. The county can purchase the Broadway building after 10 years, Gardner said.

Who voted for that?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
