What's going on with the old "Wingate" library on Guilderland Ave - across from (what was) Draper Pharmacy?

It's been vacant for a LONG time now. Last I knew, the county abandoned it as a records storage bldg, it was sold to a private individual (who was asking WAY too much in rent) and still had a leaky roof and damp basement.

Anyone know what the latest story on that is?

While we're in the neighborhood, what will happen to the Draper School building now that the Charter School is being shutdown? Is that still privately owned?

Last I heard Mobile, a training site for boxers was being considered.  Mike Tyson may be coming to town for his big fight against Holyfield.  The charter school was a misguided endevour facilitated by the Tomassone administration.  I believe Parisi and the Planning Commission put together the package for that failure.  Expect the same on SI.

I believe it was actually approved in early 2005 while Paolino was still Supervisor.

Yes, JoAnn, you are correct.  The charter school was approved under Paolino's administration, not Tomassone's.

PDQ just likes to try and stir up the pot every time he/she posts a remark, there's a troll that comes to visit every web site with the sole purpose of starting an argument. As the above post by Brad shows the facts that were posted by said troll were incorrect but that doesn't matter if your just trying to agitate other posters.

I remember it was Paolino. And I remember that all of the people who live on that street were pi**ed. Now I ask the same question....what will become of that building? Perhaps they will award it the Empire Zone status or perhaps the Metroplex will throw money at it, huh?

I guess Mobile was correct in that PDQ(aka democratic hack) needs to get a better and higher education. At least get their facts straight.

You want to split hairs, people?  Parisi and Saccocio were the Town atty, for the last year of Paolino's Admin.  Paolino was a Minority Supervisor.  Brad you are so blinded by your hatred for all Dems that you really need to catch your breath and do your due diligence.  Check the facts. Tomassone, Mertz and Vellano were the Reps on the board and that is why the Charter School was facilitated by the Tomassone admin.  It was Steve T.'s do nothing Town attorney's making $95,000+, billing town residents for "out of scope" fees like the Wal-Mart appeal that played a big role in the host benefit agreement that the Charter School agreed to before the Planning Comm. gave it their approval.  Check the record people.  Same BS going on with SI Group!

Boy Tommy Gun has you guys brain washed into thinking that the facts aren't true and the Dem's only throw mud.  The attorney's running this town are a disgrace!

I really don't believe very many of the posters on here have any love for any of the attorneys, Parisi, Saccocio, or Gardener. They work to protect the officials and town but don't give a damn about the residents. As far as the heads of any party goes, I make my mind up about them from what they do for the residents of the town/county regardless of what party they belong to.

Fair enough Shadow.  I'll be watching your posts for inconsistencies.   But you have to admit that Buchanan is a cut throat!

I can't see where either party can run a candidate without resorting to slinging mud and if that's what politics is all about many a capable candidate will never run for office and put themselves and their families thru an ordeal like that just to get elected.

Buchanan is an a**, pure and simple.  Anyone that'd allow a blank slate to run should himself be run out of town - I think that day is coming.  That does not excuse, nor provide a reason that the previous administration screwed Rotterdam before leaving - and is now (or recently was) acting in a financial position in the city. Even Ms Marco/Collins had to accept a position with Stratton to insure her pension/benefits.

Politics is a dirty, messy world. It needs to be cleaned from the inside out. Hopefully, with this coming election, some people watching this forum - and some participating in this forum, will begin that change.

Scary part is that Mertz also is an attorney.  You'd never know it by his demeanor, lack of political insight into the dicotimy of the town and obvious vindictiveness.  Now he scrares me. I live by him and shudder to think he is an elected official.  I hear Steve T. hates him but is afraid of his abnormal behavior and confrontational style.  Sow corn grow corn I guess.

We know the feeling. It's like the county legislature. Suzie Savage who runs the dictatorship and rumor has it that many of the dems hate her too, but won't say anything. They have no choice but to walk lock step with her. They can't wait until she is gone to her new position. Rumor has it that many don't like Quail or Cevara either but feel they have no choice. Rumor has it that they can't stand Gardner, the attorney either.

Bumble I agree, both parties really need to be completely overhauled and new heads of the party chosen who will do the bidding of the residents and not just become a self serving entity like they are now.
